AFCON Effect

Post

Confirmed now that Premier League teams must release their players 15th December. So Gana will return from suspension for the Chelsea away match on 13th December and then leave with Ndiaye until Senegal go out of the tournament which isn't likely to be soon.

These are the affected matches and players that could potentially miss:

20th December - Arsenal H: They lose no players to AFCON

27th December - Burnley A: Tuanzebe, Foster & Hannibal

30th December - Forest A: Sangare, Boly, Aina & Awoniyi

4th January - Brentford H: Ouattara & Onyeka

7th January - Wolves H: Munetsi, Chirewa, Agbadou, Tolu & Tchatchoua

10th January - FA Cup 3rd Round

18th January - Aston Villa A: Guessand

---
Hard to see past Senegal making the QFs, so probably won't get them back until the Aston Villa match if we're lucky but most likely they'll make the SFs and miss all those games.

Great post Shogs, looking at that then Wolves are proper screwed.
Senegal are one of the favourites to get to final. Hopefully they both get injured in the Chelsea games that sees them miss a couple of weeks and stay with us.
Going forward we need to be wary of signing AFCON players.

That's horrible to say.

Hope they go and have a great time.

Yeah it was. But I’m pretty sure he meant signing too many after commenting how fucked Wolves are. Especially with our threadbare, patchwork, mis-matched squad.

I was talking about wanting them to be injured so they can't go.

Jesus, I did not mean anything serious, more tongue in cheek, just being selfish that I’d rather them be available to us. It’s just shit that they have a tournament midway through our season. That’s all.

Yeah I mean it's not a big deal. Todd didn't need to jump in to defend you cos it wasn't anything major.

Just responding that's all.

I agree it's shit

Senegal safely through the group stage topping the table. They'll play Sudan or Burkina Faso in the L16.

03/01 L16: Sudan or Burkino Faso
04/01 Brentford H
07/01 Wolves H
09/01 QF: Mali or Tunisia
10/01 Sunderland H
14/01 SF: Potentially Egypt or Senegal
17/01 3rd Place Play-off
18/01 FINAL
18/01 Aston Villa A
26/01 Leeds H

---

Realistically they're not losing the L16 match and the only gain we could potentially get if they go out in the QF is Villa away. I'd much rather the two of them coming back in for the Leeds match as AFCON champions.
