Re: David Moyes
Still doing more right than he's doing wrong.
When very few of the fringe players come in and make impacts it's hard to say his preference for some players is a mistake.
If we had a more rounded squad, criticisms would be far more reasonable I feel. If we go out and buy some quality in some key areas and he's still playing JOB at RB then ok yeah he's being negative but we just don't have standout options and we're just trying to make do and cover for some shortcomings a lot of the time. It's hard not to notice our recent dip has come during AFCON and with the injuries/suspensions and we've gone from patching a few holes in the squad to patching issues with half the team.
Biggest concern at the moment is keeping the good players we do have and having a chance to build on them. If we get to the summer and maybe we lose Grealish and possibly Ndiaye if some bigger clubs come sniffing around then we're going to be fixing a lot of problems all and once and starting from scratch again.
This is first and foremost a squad building issue for me though.

Re: David Moyes
Grealish
Ndaiye
KDH
Gana
Branthwaite
All missing, and then you add in Alcaraz who's our backup 10, and Tim who's the only player who brings any dynamism when the player above are out.
Anyone getting pissed off maybe needs to take a second and consider how on earth we're supposed to do anything without all those available?

Re: David Moyes
Disappointing to go out, and we were mostly crap, but the players we have out are significant. The depth in the squad needs improving, we all know that.
The real disappointments of the season so far is the impact Rohl, Dibling and Barry. They haven't give us much at all.

Re: David Moyes
Didn't see it today but can't get too upset under the circumstances, just disappointing that it seems some players have been given another chance and failed to step up again.
A few ACL's done on the forum though with some of the kneejerk reactions.

Re: David Moyes
I’m not really looking at the league position. Like you say - where we are now is fine. If we finish here at the end of the season it’s a job well done.TheRam wrote: ↑Sat Jan 10, 2026 3:17 pm What would you call it then?
Two points off European places, well clear of relegation.
Was anyone really expecting better than this?
It was always going to be a long process after the last five years.
No manager comes in next season without a similar run of results or performances happening.
That’s the club we are and will be for a while yet.
The league positions are very tight and a few wins or losses either way can alter the outlook drastically. I’m more interested in how Moyes has shown that he hasn’t learned, still can’t manage effectively within games, is slow to respond, struggles to rotate, has his favourites and is not great for developing youngsters.
In my opinion it’s not a knee-jerk reaction. Judging us as close to the European places at this stage of the season in such a tight league - that’s the knee jerk reaction because this position is transient. His habits appear to be permanent.

Re: David Moyes
Everyone keeps saying ''he should be playing young players and developing them more'' but we're not in a comfortable enough position to do that.
We've come off multiple relegation threatened seasons, and if we'd lost 3 games that we'd won this season (which is significantly more likely playing inexperienced young players) we'd be sat in 17th and his job would be under threat. It's just not a risk he or we can afford.
If we end up settling into a comfortable mid-table position with no worries about dropping too far, and not much chance of Europe, as we probably will, then I'd expect him to use players like Aznou and Dibling more often in the last 10-12 games.
Everyone was saying ''we just need mid-table stability for a season'' and then when that happens, it's ultimately not enough for a lot of people.

Re: David Moyes
If we finish mid table with this squad I'll be astounded if anyone I closing the owners expect more. They might not like parts of it but huge questions would be asked by the media if Moyes was sacked at that point.
There's bits he's doing well, bits he's not but still think he's been largely great for us. Easy to be down on us right now but I keep saying it we are whole different beat with our beast 11 available

Re: David Moyes
It's almost like some people have become addicted to a 'manager out' thread every season and are struggling to wean themselves off it.

Still looking for his first win in the FA Cup since returning: P2 L2 - both at home
One more season, then a new manager for 2027-28

Re: David Moyes
We’re in a genuinely excellent spot right now.
In year one of our rebuild, we are sitting comfortably midtable. It would take a sustained run of brutal form to drag us back into the mix and we’ve been operating without 3 of our 4 most influential players for weeks now during a congested period for fixtures (Ndiaye, Gana, KDH).
We had one of the oldest squads in the league last season to we’ve added a whole bunch of young talent that is likely to improve. Even if you’re not convinced by some of these young players, they could all be sold for what we paid or maybe even a little more and reinvested next summer if we decide they’re not it.
Not having a cup to fight for stinks especially since we find ourselves here every year. Nobody really wants to hear it but year one of a new project is a hard time to expect consistency in performances and results. Most of the teams we’re looking at enviously right now found stability years ago and are simply building on it. Some of the teams that have been chaotic disasters similar to ourselves are flirting with or looking certain for the drop right now.
I find frustrations with Moyes’ tactics, team selections, and poor use of subs as much as anyone but we are genuinely privileged to be looking up rather than down right now. I’m not saying they’ve nailed every decision or even prognosticating that they’ll continue to get many of them right but Moyes and the Friedkins have given us a new lease on life.
Boring as the likely outcomes appear, we’ll be a better club for all that’s happening this season. Adjusting to a new stadium, bedding in younger players who aren’t yet hitting consistent levels of performances yet, etc. It’s part of a process that doesn’t pay immediate dividends. Really think we’re on the right track here even though it’s horrid to watch some weeks.

Re: David Moyes
Has it ever worked out for us once?
The last bit of stability we had was some young up and coming Scottish fella from the lower leagues.
