Think we've got a really nice balance in midfield but we are carelessly giving it away

Everton Under-21s defender George Finney has joined Scottish Championship club Ayr United on loan for the remainder of the 2025/26 campaign.
The 18-year-old right-back – who joined the Toffees Academy aged six – became a first-year scholar in the summer of 2023, developing with Everton Under-18s before becoming a regular with the Under-21s this season.
A technically-gifted full-back, Finney has registered three assists this term in 15 games across all competitions in the Premier League 2, Premier League International Cup, EFL Trophy and National League Cup.
For Finney – who signed a first professional contract in July 2025 – the move to link up with Scott Brown’s Ayr represents the maiden loan switch of his career.
Fourth-placed in the second tier of Scottish football, Ayr have taken 29 points from their 21 league games so far – a tally which includes six wins and eleven draws.
