Sandro’s goalscoring season and Martinez season 1 with all those worldies (and somewhat ironically built on the bedrock of Moyes’ solid foundations) are testament to this.

Re: David Moyes
I kind of agree, and this is a bit 'Monday's expert' too, but the end(?) result is that McNeil walked off today to a standing ovation, so it might have been a bit of what he needed as well, even if it appeared a bit rough at the time.sam of the south wrote: ↑Sun Mar 01, 2026 3:13 pm ...
I love that he has stabilised us, and given us our pride back, and given us hope, and I love that Grealish and KDH love him, but I don’t like how harshly he speaks about and treats our new young players, nor the dismissive, almost gammony way he spoke about McNeil yesterday, a man for whom life has been a struggle for with his partner’s health issues and his own mh.

Re: David Moyes
Nah, still no need for it. It fed into that “what have you got to complain about, you’re a millionaire” shite that is levelled at players by gammons
Re: David Moyes
Yeah I hear that's one perception from the outside, but I just think that the people in the club are likely to know more about what's best for the individuals inside it sometimes, at what point the process is at with McNeil etc.sam of the south wrote: ↑Tue Mar 03, 2026 10:01 pm Nah, still no need for it. Our assessments are based on what we see and hear from the media. And media discourse or outsider's commentary is not completely controllable. Who knows what is said inside and that's most of what matters for him.
To me it appears odd that a player who has these issues seems to function well under more demanding managers like Dyche and Moyes, (not that they're been much choice for him, except under the perhaps more emotionally intelligent Lampard) and sometimes when more is asked from them.
I'm not advocating for their type of approach BTW, just suggesting in this case it appears (from the outside at least) to be working. I also agree that no amount of money fixes mental health issues either. The people that think that 'millionaires' sort of stuff aren't the first to be looking re educate themselves either unfortunately.

I think he just had a good game against the worst side in the league.Cods wrote: ↑Tue Mar 03, 2026 10:28 pm Yeah I hear that's one perception from the outside, but I just think that the people in the club are likely to know more about what's best for the individuals inside it sometimes, at what point the process is at with McNeil etc.

I doubt anything to do with Moyes’ flippant words influenced this.
Re: David Moyes
Moyes had binned him before the season had started and even the odd cameo he was rubbish so I don't think Moyes has suddenly found some pearls of wisdom to motivate him, he hadn't managed before now.
Probably as likely that the collapsed move has been the jolt he needed to lift himself until the end of the season and see what happens.

Re: David Moyes
Could be that too, could be the club's psychologists...who knows....
It's all a bit of speculation around impacts, effects, messaging, perceived motivators, and who is the real target audience; which is kind of the backdrop of my post really.
Moyes' comments could have been as much about 'appeasing' a chunk of our fanbase, when choosing to make a tough call by playing a boo-boy rather than someone exciting that the majority of the fans want to see, and maybe addressing the 'Moyes only plays favourites' tag more than anything else, as was the clear line of questioning from that interview. By not singling him out and taking the focus off McNeil, saying he's just the same as everyone else (when he's clearly not) at least takes the spotlight away. Pushing the meritocracy line...
Not sure there's much to be gained by Moyes in setting some players back more than he needs to, even if the comments were a bit clunky to say the least.
