He also wouldn’t take a 2 year deal whether we want him or not

£15m?

I thought this was on a free and even that would be a bad idea.
Who would you buy for £15m that would be better? It doesn't buy you much unless you want super raw untapped and unlikely to have any impact for multiple years youngsters.

We don't need more of those, we need someone that can come in now if Grealish isn't coming back.

Just to be clear I'm talking about buying on a limited budget, obviously if we can throw double at someone younger and better then that would be my preferred option. I just don't expect the moon on a stick when as a club we probably have next to nothing to spend on this position.

Brentford signed Jadon Anthony for £17m.

Better and younger and still pretty shite.

Grealish - 15 goal involvements over the past 3 seasons.

I'm not saying Murphy is a better player than Grealish, but his numbers and availability are considerably higher.
5 goal involved last season. His only really productive period was when they had Isak on fire in the team? His stats either side of that have been average at best. He's clearly not bad, but he's an average premier league player that had figures inflated by playing with arguably the best striker in Europe at that point in time.

Even with his best output he's only averaging 3.8 goals a season and 4.8 goals over the previous 6 years, you take out his one impressive season (24/25) and it drops to 3 assists and 3.4 goals

Most of his minutes last season were off the bench though as Howe persisted with Elanga for long stretches despite being utterly dreadful.

My main point here is that if we can't spend much on the position and Grealish isn't coming back, who would be better on the right? McNeil or Murphy?

I'd take Murphy all day long.

But obviously if we can get a Rayan or the like instead then we absolutely should do that.

It's not McNeil vs Murphy, it's Murphy vs spending the money more wisely or giving the minutes to Dibling.

Murphy would be a 35games a season guy for Moyes I reckon

£15m doesn't go far though, and no way Moyes goes in to next season with Dibling as first choice.

I have appreciation for Moyes’ time here, but if we spend 15 mil on Murphy at his age I’d rather say thanks and let Moyes take the Scotland job and move on.

There is no sense in spending that sort of money in that way.

Can’t even be arsed having this discussion you know.

Absolutely STINKS of mediocrity, and I won’t entertain even the thought of making a case for it. Anyone who does should be regarded with scorn and derision.

Yeah, it would have the stench of Allardyce getting Walcott and Tosun

Ffs why not go into the season with dibling rather than a guy on the downturn this is exactly why Moyes isn’t the right guy

You've been conditioned into thinking this because we're dogshit at finding value, and looking beyond England and the obvious sources for talent.

Sunderland spent really well last summer, as do Brentford and Bournemouth - they'd make the most out of £15m. Just because we don't, doesn't mean it can't happen.
