I'm not disagreeing with the notion of getting a right back, of course it's essential. But I think we go down with the midfield we have.

On a scale of 1-10, with 10 being absolutely desperate, and 1 being fine, I think the need to get a really good midfielder(s) is 10 and right back is 9

brap2 wrote: Wed Jul 22, 2026 8:51 am Well Merlin Rohl barely got a kick and was most recently played as a rb

Tim is wanted by ipswich and we are apparently happy for him to go

Charly is not rated

Hackney possibly a ten and is new and untested

KDH a ten in Moyes mind

Harrison Armstrong likely to be on loan again or otherwise warming the bench

How many prem players do we have in CM, 2 certainties and one of those is Tim.
Also garner injured atm

Is there anywhere we are currently stronger?

Is there anywhere we are currently not weaker?

Gk maybe, touch wood.

Cb - another year on Keane and Tark and another serious injury on JB.

Full back - not weaker to be fair, but well documented.

Cm - weaker by far. I know people don’t rate Gueye sometimes (heads tested pls) but he’s a massive miss.

Am - could argue stronger with HH.

St - not weaker

Wide - weaker definitely.

Garner or Rohl at rb is criminal ineptitude by the club both should be part of our starting midfield imo im worried about the season ahead with our current squad

What’s sad is I haven’t even CONSIDERED the possibility of signing a LB. Just happy to accept the worst options in the league and move on.

brap2 you are on fire!! I think you are right and perhaps a bit too optimistic too. :)

Problem is that whilst getting marginaly stronger in attack - where we still dont look like scoring at all - we are getting massively worse in defence.

There is no right back and to be honest there is no left back either. Extend the contract with Mykolenko shows either a lack of ambitions or a lack of inteligence from our sport management. Keane and Tarkowski is getting slower and worse year by year and while O`Brien has to play right back and Branthwaite left back - if not injured our defence is falling apart. Add to this that we loose our most intelligent defensive midfielder - that of some crazy reason isnt appreciated by both a lot of fans and the club itself we might be in for a horrible season.

I think it’s mostly the same.

GK -same-ish

CBs - arguably could actually be stronger if the physios working with Branthwaite can build him back up properly without rushing. Potential of JOB being shifted across too as I think we will sign a RB.

Full back - same, again potentially even better as I think we will bring in another.

CM - missing Gueye only currently. Could well be selling Alcaraz and Tim. Gueye could be a miss, but we found some decent CM pairings during last AFCON. I imagine if we sell we will bring in more. However yes this is really the main question mark.

AM - hopefully improved with another option here (Hackney).

St - same

Wide - chances are Grealish comes back. So in that scenario it’s same again too. Minus Grealish then yes that’s the other area we’d be lacking.

Honestly right now it just feels very similar. Lost Gueye, gained Hackney. Waiting to see on Grealish.

I get why people are losing their shit given our general incompetence when it comes to transfers, but honestly you lot must have way more energy than me if you can be bothered to waste so much of it this early in the summer.

The world cup only just finished, players are away, good ones waiting to see what offers come in... Even if you're correct and the next season is going to be a car crash I'd rather use my energy complaining about it then than before it's even happened.

We always knew it was going to be a two summer plan.

So so excited to see the results of the big plan in one month time.
