Brennan Johnson
Everton and Crystal Palace have held talks over a potential swap deal involving English winger Dwight McNeil, 26, and Palace's Wales winger Brennan Johnson, 25. (Times - subscription required)
Re: Summer Transfer Window 2026
Never feel like swap deals ever happen successfully. Not sure I want one ok ish winger replacing an average one just so Moyes has an excuse not to go with Dibling and George
Re: Summer Transfer Window 2026
The transfer will NOT involve any money and is a straight swap. Medicals for both players could take place as early as Monday

Re: Summer Transfer Window 2026
That’s bizarre for Palace.
I like it for us. Gives us a direct winger to run in behind and stretch defenses. We completely lack that sort of player.
Last season was the first “down” season of his career and he’s still prime age. I think it’s fair to bet that it was a blip and not a sign of full career skid.

Great deal if true. But as Andy said, we’d need to adapt the way we play. Would be a waste if he spent 80% of his time just protecting his fullback.
Re: Brennan Johnson
Or as I saw someone call him earlier, Brendon Johnstone doing a swap with McNeial.
Re: Brennan Johnson
Really weird one.
Pleased to see McNeil go but not sure I see the logic in this.

Re: Brennan Johnson
If we had signed Theo Walcott 2-3 years earlier and all it had cost us fee-wise was a player we didn’t want anymore, it would’ve been a good deal.
That’s kind of what this feels like to me.
I get that he’s a bad fit for their system but wild that Palace are entertaining this so soon after paying £35m for him. I know they just won an FA Cup and a Conference League so they’ve got that going for them but I’d be livid about this business if I supported them.

Re: Brennan Johnson
We’re probably just taking over the existing terms of his rather expensive 4.5 yr contract after they have decided they don’t rate him and don’t want him. Whilst getting rid of McNeil’s wages at the same time.
He’s just not a very good addition to the squad though is he?

Re: Brennan Johnson
There is more upside for us than for Palace. McNeil is what he is and won’t improve from here. Johnson can improve and has shown he is capable of much more than he has recently shown.
By getting Johnson however, it is an opportunity cost and we are forgoing receiving the cash and being able to use those resources elsewhere. The question we should be asking is, if we received the cash instead, would Johnson be near the top of the list to replace McNeil?

Re: Brennan Johnson
I’m deffo having that deal, not that I particularly like Johnson but adds stuff we don’t really have I think.
Hope it happens.
