He could easily framed this summer much more positively which I don't think is bullshit but just a more positive take.

We have bought some exciting young players along with some experience, we are still actively looking for players and will look to build on what we already have before the end of the window. The players already here that came in last season have had a full pre season and I really like the look of how they progressing. Hayden has come in and will be a real asset to us as he integrates with the squad over the course of the season.

The less experienced players will get their time to shine this season, they have looked really good in the pre season matches so I am confident Everton fans can trust them to do well for Everton. The squad is looking forward to starting the season and we hope we can really kick on and have a real go at teams which I know the Everton fans really love.

I think it would be stupid to put pressure on a new player by saying ''he's going to be a key player for us''. That would be an idiotic thing to do. You want to do the exact opposite and take the pressure off a new player.

Again, it's people looking for things to dislike.
It’s just Moyes being Moyes and his default position being negative.

Martinez would say that the young lads are ready to drive us to Europe (too positive), Moyes will say they need time to adapt (too negative).

A good manager would be talking up the likes of Barry, Dibling, Rohl etc and the fact that they’ve had some time to bed in at the club and therefore can push on this year. Gets the fans onboard with some reasonable positivity and puts the good type of pressure on the players.

He’s just so automatically negative and it’s tiring to listen to

It's just Moyes being Moyes I agree. He'll always say little, and anything he does say is to put pressure on the board to give him more money for players.

It doesn't mean he's saying the same to the players or being the dour Scotsman he is with the media. He's obviously saying the right things to the players as we've seen the likes of Rohl, Armstrong, Dibling and Barry all play well above last season's standards.

We've been here with every manager though. The moment people have decided they're done with them they just jump on every interview and press conference and complain. Literally every time.

To the point I've asked previously 'why watch them if you hate what they say every time', but people do because it gives them another opportunity to complain.

I think the very best managers regularly talk down expectations of players, and don't give praise easily.

If you listen to Pep at City, journos would constantly be saying ''isn't Haaland incredible?'' and Pep's answer would be ''he needs to do more and work harder for the team'' or some version of that. That's a very common managerial behaviour across the football world. It's far from unique to Moyes.

He does err on the more cautious side with giving out praise, but personally I would prefer that to over-praise, and I suspect the vast majority of Everton fans would deep down. When do you get praise from a manager like that, it means so much more than someone like Martinez who probably tells the tea lady it's the greatest cup of tea he's ever experienced every morning.

Try to view it from Moyes' perspective. It's obvious that he likes our young players. He's bringing them to the club and (hopefully) he's playing them more often. From his perspective, that should be all the validation they need. When you hear the players talk about Moyes, they almost all universally love him. So he's clearly doing plenty in private to boost them and foster strong relationships with them. Grealish loves him. KDH loves him. Tyrique George wanted to come back to the club, despite not playing a lot. We haven't heard interviews in the media from players who aren't getting games, slagging him off. Those things suggest all suggest a manager who is good at building relationships.

Tyrique George was asked in pre-season about what the manager wants from him, and he said something like ''the manager just wants me to express myself as much as possible'', not ''the manager wants me to track back and be disciplined''. I think something like that would probably surprise some fans.

In terms of Moyes' dealing with the media, I do think he could be better there, and I think some of the criticism is valid. He is quite an old school manager in that regard, and has a very suspicious attitude towards any of their questions. He hates giving anything away to them, he's very defensive with them and he sees it as a combative relationship, not a mutually beneficial relationship that he can use.

But in doing that, he forgets that this is also his communication with the fans, and the fans are desperate to hear anything that might give them encouragement or hope. So I agree that his default caution and suspicion with the media isn't ideal, and often gets misread as a person who is relentlessly negative. I think the truth is much more nuanced (ie he has excellent relationships with the players, even the young players).

I couldn't care less about what he says, I want him gone. One of my worst fears is him doing relatively well and being given an extension - I do think that's a real possibility under this management. And it's not that I don't want is to succeed, but it's more what that entails under him

Let’s see what happens when we start to play some actual, competitive football.

I think it’s fair to look at last season, his comments here and think it’s going to be more of the same.

Europe this season. No excuses, no benefit of the doubt to be applied.

He talked it up when things were going well. Now he’s lowering the expectations and standards to protect himself.

Did he talk things up? Everyone complained that he kept talking about top half finish instead of Europe when we were within reach of champions league qualification

He sounded like he was scared witless when someone mentioned Champions League to him in an interview. Got all weak and couldn't bring himself to say it was within our grasp.

it was the most defeatist nonsense I'd heard from a manager supposedly aiming to achieve something meaningful as he draws the curtain down on his career.

Someone will find the video but I remember thinking what a pathetic response for a team jostling with Bournemouth, Brentford and Brighton to upset the big boys and gatecrash the top 5.

Maybe he has different conversations with the players than he does with the fanbase? Just a thought.

He probably thinks it matters fuckall what he says as the fans will use anything as a stick to beat him. And he'd be right.

And it doesn't matter what he says anyway, it only matters what his team does on the pitch.

Under promise, over deliver.

Some seem to have already decided the result and the games' not even started yet.

This exactly.

We all know we haven’t got money, we all know we need fullbacks, we all know Europe would be a stretch this year.

What you look for in a leader is how to feel. They set the culture. I’m just sick of the tone being plucky little Everton go with what they’ve got and punching above their weight type vibes because it does not easily breed success.

Neither do I want to hear Bobby brown shoes saying we’ll win the lot.

But we have a new ground, new owners, it’s a new era and I am absolutely fucking ready for a new attitude.

Really not arsed what he says in interviews as long as its not something way out of line, like he was at the end of the season.

They interview far too much and just repeat the same things, why read too much into it if its just standard comments?

We've looked good in our last two games and are clearly still after more players, with a lot of talented young players in the squad. I feel optimistic about the club again.

Can go the other way though.

Boring and depressing listening to the same people constantly giving the benefit of the doubt despite all evidence to the contrary.

Do you still believe we’re holding tight in the market waiting for value and quality like @AjaxAndy did last summer?

He’s been our manager for thirteen years. He’s very easy to predict.

As is this club on the whole. I’d love to be the other way, but I can’t with what we’ve been served up through the years.

Did I say that? Have no recollection tbh.

Not saying you're wrong, just can't remember what happened last summer tbh. Did we not get value for money though, maybe excluding Dibling?

Personally not Moyes out in the slightest.

Club has absolutely no interest in kicking on and only want to stay nice and steady while the tv money accumulates so Moyes is the man for that job imo.

If anything I would be extremely annoyed if they get 5 games into the season without a win and chop him.
