Squad 2024-25

Post

This has bothered me for a while, not keeping me awake levels, but come 1st July at the moment, with 8 contracts (including loans) due to expire this summer, this will be the squad... It's not so much the quality but the numbers, 17 first team players

Goalkeepers 2

Jordan Pickford
Joao Virginia

Defenders 6

Michael Keane
Ben Godfrey
James Tarkowski
Vitaliy Mykolenko
Nathan Patterson
Jarrad Branthwaite

Midfielders 4

Abdoulaye Doucoure
Tyler Onyango
James Garner
Amadou Onana

Forwards 5

Dominic Calvert-Lewin
Lewis Dobbin
Dwight McNeill
Beto
Chermiti

And 7 of those 17 are out of contract summer 2025.

Gueye and Coleman will be re-signed.

Branthwaite will be sold to satisfy FFP and the money launderers/lenders.

Onana will be sold to fund replacing him and Branthwaite. Hopefully we'll get a bit of cash off Brentford for Maupay.

Calvert-Lewin will be sold if he doesn't sign a new deal, as will Godfrey.

Michael Keane will sign a new 4 year deal.

Brilliant.... dont sign anyone else and hopefully this will mean we cant put forward a squad, so we will just stop being a club!

The situation is still unknown as of now as to what we will be able to spend in the summer, if anything at all.

Threadbare squad though. Although you'd think one of Branthwaite/Onana would fetch a decent fee.

Squad will remain paper thin for at least another season until we get to BMD and can put some of our financial woes behind us.

But, we can replace Gomes, Dele, Young with players that contribute more for probably £100k/week vs the £250k/week we currently spend on them.

We will be relying on free transfers, loans, and getting players close to the end of their contracts on the cheap.

I am concerned about how much worse the squad is going to get if we lose Onana and Branthwaite the same summer. We're not a good team and we might only be getting worse.

Desperately need some huge transfer wins - ie cheapish players that are big contributors. Need a couple of those Brighton-style transfers. Maybe we get lucky and get an academy player coming through.

Problem is. Every penny we get will just line the pockets of these 777 leaches. Just think they will be like vultures.

They will rely on the loan system between the clubs they already co own and fill the squad with pure garbage.

In the first instance I suspect every penny we get will go towards paying off some of the £170 million we currently owe them with this possibly rising to £200 million before they are confirmed.

Would that debt not be converted to part of their ownership stake?

Oh yes you are right, they just deduct it from the £500m that Moshiri wants, unless of course the PL do not approve them and they just ask for their money back.

I don't expect DCL to be sold. Makes more sense from his POV to wait out his contract because he'll definitely get better offers as a free agent.

Seems like it's going end up that so much money gets pumped into the club that Morshiri will end up just having to sign the club over and walk away. That makes me chuckle a little bit. :snigger:

Not forgetting the £200m owed to Sports Media Fund and the £150m to MSP. That’s approx £35m in annual interest, right there - before we get to BMD and can refinance.

Going to be on helluva balancing act.

And you’d expect the league (assuming we’re still in the PL) to be more competitive with Leicester and probably Leeds coming up.

Joy 🤩

Makes sense from his perspective, but not ours. If he doesn't sign a deal we think is fair then we need to take whatever we can for him. And if he doesn't want to go and wants to sit his contract out like Barkley then he can expect similar treatment.
