There's a real ceiling in the PL these days. Villa have wildly overperformed and Emery deserves credit but if you look at West Ham in 9th and then the clubs below, which of the others in that top 8 could you realistically expect any of the bottom 12 to finish above?

City, Arsenal, Lpool, Spurs, Chelsea, United, Newcastle.

This is the trouble when you get the Brighton (or similar) job. An absolutely exceptional season would be 8th, 10th/11th would be decent and yet bizarrely anything below that is seen as a failure. There is such a low margin of error. I'm not really sure how tempting of a job it is

Been hankering for a move to a top club for ages so no surprise

As the Brighton owner said the other day, no one is bigger than the clubs long term model

If it was going to happen then I'd have encouraged moves to Liverpool or Bayern and get some compensation, not just leave him to leave on a free/pay him off.

Next up on “we’re desperate for any kind of breaking news even if it isn’t breaking news”, Slot will be appointed as Liverpoool’s next manager

Talk about setting a rod for your own back - improving Darwin Nunez, even Ethan Hunt would not take that Mission.

Bet we’d take a striker who scored 18 and got 13 assists though!

While it would have been knee jerk had he been sacked 3/4 months ago I would have been far less surprised. The way this season ended I was convinced he had bought himself a bit of time.
