I’m not really bothered that the club may have delayed contract talks due to his injury record. He owes it to the fans imo. He wasn’t very good to begin with, then he had a terrible bought of injuries all while the fans have given him lots of time and patience. I suppose with the next player this happens to I should give him abuse on Twitter and at the ground when they don’t score 20 goals every season, given that there’s no loyalty in football now

Him not owing Everton or Everton fans anything isn't linked to whether or not you should behave like a twat.Bornblue88 wrote: ↑Sun Jun 23, 2024 2:28 pm I’m not really bothered that the club may have delayed contract talks due to his injury record. Re: Dominic Calvert-Lewin
Has he pushed for the move or anything? As far as I know Newcastle want to buy him, we are up for selling him, he hasn't pushed for a move or made noises about not being happy and ultimately it probably won't even be his decision.Bornblue88 wrote: ↑Sun Jun 23, 2024 2:28 pm I’m not really bothered that the club may have delayed contract talks due to his injury record. I don't really know what you're moaning at, you're getting upset about a player you don't seem to rate but you'd rather he stayed just to show some loyalty to a club he's owes nothing to rather than us get some decent money for him. And he got his fair share of stick from fans too, it's wide of the mark to say fans stuck by him, plenty didn't and plenty gave him unreasonable abuse.
You're stuck on the dark ages if you're expecting loyalty from players just because you didn't give him stick on Twitter.

Re: Dominic Calvert-Lewin
I think he’s good now and the club would prefer him to stay. He’s made the choice to leverage his contract situation into a move which is snakey imo. Whatever we sell him for is less than what we could get if he had a few years left on his contract so he’s weakening us. It’s the same as when Barkley delayed his move to Chelsea and they got him cheaper and he’s reviled on here
Re: Dominic Calvert-Lewin
Without going full Escla how do you know he's using his contract situation to leverage a move, I've not seen or heard anything that suggests that? It's also nothing like Barkley's situation either.Bornblue88 wrote: ↑Sun Jun 23, 2024 3:17 pm I think he’s good now and the club would prefer him to stay. It's bonkers to expect a player to sign a new contract just so that we can get more money for him, it rarely if ever happens. And what if he did, then picked up another injury that kept him in and out the squad for the next 18-24 months like he has been in the past while he picks up 100's thousands a week when we could have got rid of him for millions. Don't forget as well, there was plenty stories at the time that his injury could be career limiting so we don't even know if he's got another 50-100 games in him.
I don't think there's much substance to what you're saying and it's something you're assuming without any grounds to it. His situation is no different to when most players leave a club and he doesn't owe us any loyalty. We've also had too many players run their contract down and leave for nothing over the years, if we can get £20-30m for a player we paid £1.5m for then it's good business, forget sentiment or loyalty.

Re: Dominic Calvert-Lewin
Maybe I should just say it again a bit clearer:
IF he leaves for a LOW FEE then it’s a snake move. If we get fair market value for his talent then I’m fine with it

Re: Dominic Calvert-Lewin
I think it’s just best for both parties to move on.
He’s been here for eight years.
We get a very nice profit, he probably goes to a better team with a nice pay rise.
He’ll always be a player remembered for the palace and liverpool goals. We should all just wish him and move on.

Whats he meant to do just sign new contracts forever?? Will we live up to our part of this and continue offering him new contracts forever tooBornblue88 wrote: ↑Sun Jun 23, 2024 3:17 pm I think he’s good now and the club would prefer him to stay. I'd have a bit of a problem if he refused to sign and refused to move but if he wants to leave then it suits both us and him for him to go now rather than in a year

Re: Dominic Calvert-Lewin
Have we even offered him a new contract in the past couple of seasons?
If not, then he can’t be accused of running it down, and with his record, we probably didn’t want to give a him a new contract until now.
I’ll miss him if he goes, but getting “£37m” at this moment in time is too good to turn down.

You seem to be under the delusion that DCL will be responsible for agreeing the value of his own transfer

Re: Dominic Calvert-Lewin
How exactly have I given that impression? Having a year left on his deal increases pressure to sell therefore weakening our bargaining position. What’s hard to understand about that?Cereal Killer wrote: ↑Sun Jun 23, 2024 5:05 pm Let’s go back to basics

If he goes for a low fee, say £10m, he’s a snakeBornblue88 wrote: ↑Sun Jun 23, 2024 5:09 pm How exactly have I given that impression? Having a year left on his deal increases pressure to sell therefore weakening our bargaining position. What’s hard to understand about that?
If he goes for £35m he’s sound
Despite the fact he has zero say in what offer the club accepts
Where’s your snake/no snake cut off point?

Re: Dominic Calvert-Lewin
I’d say that’s a somewhat fair assessment. But we could also say we don’t want to sell him and have him sign a contract. If he won’t then it forces our hand. It’s not that hard to graspCereal Killer wrote: ↑Sun Jun 23, 2024 5:18 pm If he goes for a low fee, say £10m, he’s a snake
