Re: Dyche

DYCHE got the selection completely wrong for brighton. Problem is he doesn't seem to "learn" from these issues. Spurs will basically be the same side with holgate at right back....unless he learns from the brighton game.

People blaming keane for the goals...2 of their goals came from the transition with our players giving easy passes straight into into their men on the halfway line..as we were in transition it exposed our back 2 CB's and as we all know keane isn't good on the back foot....

Cods wrote: Mon Aug 19, 2024 5:47 am I'm not sure the financial situation is taken into account as much as it should in regard to manager performance.

We're DEAD LAST in the league spend table, 20th in net player spend. Over the last 4 seasons weve made €100m PROFIT, whilst the 4 biggest spenders have averaged over half a billion in net trading LOSSES.

Our net spend over this period is around €300m less than the league average. That means each season we're spending €75m less, or the equivalent of TWO FEWER Amadou Onana's per season, than the average mid-table club!

We've also given away a number of players for nothing at contract end, and still have more that will be leaving on frees. On the plus side we've done some shrewd business recently on incoming players, with big constraints on us but there's a huge amount of work to be done.

The quality in the squad is down to bare bones and wasn't good at the start of this period, as we finished 16th. Expectation must be tempered against the realities of the situation we're in.
Just as an extension, if we were in the Championship this season all else being equal, we again would have been DEAD LAST in net spend over the same period.

There are obvious limitations to this but the same applies if we were in League One, our net spend is the lowest in all of English football, and ALL BUT 4 teams in Europe; Lille, Villarreal, Inter and Stade Rennais.

We've almost gutted the quality from the squad over the term of an average contract length. On the weekend we played only 3 regular starters that were here prior to this spend-period. That we're still kicking is an anomaly really.

Not discounting the handsome pay-packet, it's partly Dyche's determination and stubbornness that led him to take on this job and to still be here when I imagine many in his exact position wouldn't, I hate to think where we might have been had he not. 5 managers in 5 years, a 'bitsa' of a squad, low morale, huge financial constraints/crisis, owner's player picks, backroom turnover, points deductions...

In light of the above I couldn't really give a rats as to the way he appears to come across in the media, or how likeable we might want to imagine he might be as a person, I'd wager most would probably like him as a person if they knew him, not that it matters.

Managing a football club, like selecting a president/prime minister, should never be about how they perform in the circus that is the media, it should be about what they actually achieve for the club/country.

Re: Dyche

I get and agree with a lot CODs is saying. However, the financial side of the club isn't down to DYCHE on the pitch is.....and as has been stated he does make "surprising" team selections and seems to favour experience over "possibilities"...imagine if moyes had of said " na not picking rooney he's only 16"....which takes me back to CODS points....would people "trust" DYCHE to buy the right players IF he did have the spending power ?

Unpopular opinion but he's probably right to bed players in slowly.

If he put them in day one and we get smashed 3-0 the temptation would be there to say Christ these are crap pull them out.

If we get smashed 3-0, iron out one or two other issues over the next month and then introduce them its a better start.

Edit: it's stuff like just never using my Patterson, never using danjuma, not using Onana enough, clearly given up on Beto. He makes his mind up on players sometimes and they're just done, even though we have zero depth and very little quality.

Also he's not going to change who he is, is he. This is how he operates and it should be expected.

Also, it’s common amongst most managers to slowly bed new signings in.

If you look across the weekend you’d see a lot of new signings on the bench.

Only one I have an issue with is Keane over obrien, but a young lad who’s only played in Belgium and france is still a risk to throw in.

Its a judgement call and if we had have won at the weekend it wouldnt of even been an issue, the fact is we got pumped, at home and he made the same mistakes hes made over and over again. Iroegbunam was arguably our best player, he looked like he had freedom and enthusiasm to go out there and play despite limited top flight football experience, that should be the lesson Dyche needs to learn, but im telling you he wouldnt have even got on the pitch if Garner was fit, he's so risk adverse its crippling us.

I think too much is made of Dyche's stubbornness. He gave Branthwaite his opportunity early in the season last year, Jarrod took it and kept his spot.

He gave Patterson opportunities and he didn't take them.

Danjuma didn't fit what he wants from a player so despite getting opportunities early in the season he didn't play after.

He plays Young when there's no choice, and no playing Harrison at RWB isn't a good alternative.

He beds in new players gradually rather than throwing them in and demanding they perform, I'd imagine over the long term this is more successful for some players than it would be just chucking them in.

He is slow with subs so that's a fair criticism.

New players are made to earn their spot by performing better than existing players which seems fair.

Dyche won't ever get universal approval but I don't think many managers do. There'll always be things people don't like, but it does feel like there's a percentage that jump on certain things every time we lose, and really we are going to lose plenty of games this season because of stuff that's not really a Dyche issue.

Too cautious is what people keep saying. Maybe if we weren't facing ffp problems each year, having to make a profit from transfers and knowing relegation could see us in administration he'd be a little less cautious

Maybe if someone had shown a little caution these last 10 years we wouldn't be utterly fucked.

3 points he gave Jared his start why was that was it not because Keane fucked up against villa why not start branthwaite for the first 2 games he only plays young when there is no other option is not correct he played young winger and full back when there were other and better options and he didn’t give Patterson a fair chance he did well against West Ham away and against Sheffield united where he got an assist then dropped for the rest of the season he is brutally stubborn and rigid this weekend is crying out for us to go 3-5-2 but he won’t he will play holgate and Keane and we will get pumped then play the new players in the Doncaster game the late subs thing is another problem but he will tell you that the players on the bench aren’t ready so let’s not make out he isn’t stubborn or too rigid in his approach because he definitely is

Yes he didn't throw a young inexperienced central defender in form the start, he waited until the senior player had a bad game, gave the young player a chance and told him to make the spot his own... and that player is now worth £80m a year later. Very weird to say Dyche fucked up here.

This weekend was calling for 3-5-2... With who as wing backs exactly? We don't have a right back or a right wing back. Playing a winger there against Mitoma would be bizarre.

It's all well and good saying play Lindstrom or left footed Jack Harrison as a RWB but it doesn't mean that's actually a sensible idea in the real world.

Brathwaite started from the third game and was a mainstay. He was carrying a bit of a knock from the under 21s. Stubborn would have been to keep Keane in the side for a few more games. Truth is, he was hardly seen for the remainder of the season.

Patterson played 26 games last season.

He was our first choice right back up until the cup game where he had a stinker after struggling for form.

Mason Holgate was plonked in the reserves last season and sent out on loan twice.

You have completely made up in your head that he said Holgate will start and made yourself angry.

I agree dyche is cautious, but I don’t see the need for you and others to constantly make things up?

Also the people who complain about Branthwaite missing 2 games and o brien not playing Saturday were the same people shouting for Simms and Cannon too.

I asked you constantly to post it mate but you didn’t?

You said press conference and he said nothing of the sort.

I’m not being a contrarian, just looking for truth. That’s it.

He can play three at the back with Harrison at RWB.
