Early Leavers
Re: Early Leavers
I remember leaving slightly early against Chelsea in 1999, we were 1-0 up, Kevin Campbell had scored, it was into stoppage time and we stupidly thought we were home and dry as they were down to 10 men, Leboeuf had been sent off. We were in the Upper Gwladys and as we were getting down the stairs there was a collective groan and we could here all the seats flipping up, I said to my mates, "Chelsea have scored", we got back to the car put the radio and Flo had scored with about the final kick of the game. I can't remember exactly what happened but Richard Dunne had fucked up they scored the late equaliser.
I don't think I've left a one goal difference game early since.

Re: Early Leavers
I remember the 3-3 against United when Cahill and Arteta scored in stoppage time, weirdly, the guy sitting close to me at the time left as soon as Cahill made it 2-3, kicking off saying he hates "consolation" goals. Then he missed Artetas goal. Has to be one of the most bizarre "leaving early" moments I've ever witnessed.
Re: Early Leavers
I was at the game too, Upper Gwladys again and a good few people had left, the end was one of those moments you wish you could bottle it and keep.Cozzie wrote: ↑Fri Nov 01, 2024 9:11 pm I remember the 3-3 against United when Cahill and Arteta scored in stoppage time, weirdly, the guy sitting close to me at the time left as soon as Cahill made it 2-3, kicking off saying he hates "consolation" goals. Re: Early Leavers
I leave early most games and don’t regret it, which mostly says a lot about where we are. Wouldn’t go in a big game, but after sitting through 86 turgid minutes against Fulham I’m not overly arsed about missing the equaliser of it shaved 45mins off my journey home.
I think it will change a lot when we move, but at present for most going the game is a chore or routine, and there’s not much enjoyment about it.

Re: Early Leavers
Same. Easier to say though, when I go to one or two games a year. People who do leave, to protest, I understand, even if I don’t think I could do it. People who do it for a pint or to miss the crowds etc, that I don’t get.
Re: Early Leavers
The lad who sat next to me against Fulham got off after 30 minutes.
Fairly certain it's not the first time he's done it too.

Re: Early Leavers
It’s not even as though you could classify a Luke warm plastic bottle of Carling as a “pint” I know it is in measure but roll on BMD !Toddacelli wrote: ↑Sat Nov 02, 2024 6:50 am Same. (That’s all you can get in upper Gwladys, don’t know about other parts of the ground ?)

Re: Early Leavers
Went to leave early against Boro in the cup saga at thier place for safety reasons as car parked in a boozer locally. Half way down the steps when roar goes up... Back up to see we'd equalised. One shady night that but that was Boro at night

Re: Early Leavers
My time is the most important thing in the world to me.
If am at the game and not enjoying it I’ll leave before full time. Not even arsed.
Will sometimes reach the point at the match where I’d rather get home and hour quicker, or have a pint with the lads before the pub is rammed rather than sit and watch Everton.
I’ve even decided not to go the game at times when we’ve been on tele because I’ve travelled home from barrow on the Sunday or it’s a midweek game and I can’t be bothered getting to bed late on a week night.
Maybe we should question the amount of ridiculous kick of times and the amount of stoppage time there is these days instead of fans leaving early?
Football at the highest level gets worse and worse to be a part of every year.

Re: Early Leavers
Stoppage time isn't an issue, it's fair, as you should be playing the allocated time. The issue is the amount of pussies that play the game now, rolling around in agony after the most minimal impact, defenders going down with 'head injuries' at corners as they know the game will be stopped, etc, etc, etc. This is one of the reasons I wasnt that fussed when Ricky leftTheRam wrote: ↑Sat Nov 02, 2024 10:42 am My time is the most important thing in the world to me.

Yeah long since given up on the idea that I owe anything to the club or the players, or that professional football requires anything from me besides my bank balance.TheRam wrote: ↑Sat Nov 02, 2024 10:42 am My time is the most important thing in the world to me.

Not just for footy though for me - rugby too. Never left earlyToddacelli wrote: ↑Sat Nov 02, 2024 6:50 am Same. Easier to say though, when I go to one or two games a year. Yeah, nothing but utter contempt for the match going fans.Raptor wrote: ↑Sat Nov 02, 2024 10:48 am Stoppage time isn't an issue, it's fair, as you should be playing the allocated time. Re: Early Leavers
That 2-0 away at Southampton with Martinez? I never came back up from the concourse at half time. Bought a few extra pints and stayed down till the rest of the lads came down for th coach at full time.
Ive got to county road and given my ticket to other people and just stayed in the boozer on more than one occasion.
As Ram alluded to, i owe the shitehawks nothing and when you go every other week, it's much less of an occasion
