Never said he was a close personal friend but as others have said he always seemed to have time for a chat with the fans when stopped and asked etc.

Yes he should own his part of the boardroom mess but I feel he should always be welcomed for what he did as a player. To me he’s guilty by association and for saying nothing publicly but it’s not like he caused the mess Moshiri & Kenwright got us into

I wouldn’t know for sure….. but some people on here always pull the £ signs out no matter what they’re discussing….
The money buys what you want or require..loyalty, a blind eye or whatever. You just need to know your price because we all have one when it comes to jobs

He didn't cause the mess but his whole job seems to be to run interference for the board against fans who are displeased by the mess they were making.

Even now he's saying we were treated badly. Who's the we?? He's talking about the board members who did make the mess.

NDE’s get paid, can even be highly paid if on a specific commitee such as remuneration commitee or audit commitee etc.

It seems no one is particularly privy to exactly what his role and responsibilities were, or more importantly what he was told, or exposed to, and why. And what his level of understanding was or was persuaded to believe.

So much off-hand judgement based on what appears to be so little available information, the sort of stuff that would leave anyone in the same position feeling unhappy about a shitty situation that where he once stood in good stead with both, now had him right in the middle of a club vs fans in a lose-lose situation.

On that basis I can completely understand where he could be coming from, and it would make sense given his comments.

would always welcome sharpy back at goodison - he was misled by moshiri & co and he probably feels uncomfortable if he sat watching the blues as he knows he has some responsibilty to what happened with the board
im always going to remember sharpys footy career at everton during our golden era under howard and thats his legacy at everton - 2 premier league titles equivalent + fa cup
+ ECWC
when i hear sharpys name thats what always comes to mind

Seems to be.

We don’t really know the full story - for me he’d always be welcomed for his playing career alone.

At least with Sharp he played a key role in some of Everton’s greatest success albeit this was as a player rather than as a board member so I think he deserves to still be seen as an Everton legend.

Since he was employed by Everton in the various roles (ambassador etc) unfortunately he came across as a “yes man” to Kenwright, the board and the owner and probably could have done something to distance himself from the headlock era and try and interact with the fans.

Anyway I think in a few years time we’ll see him back watching games at the new stadium.

He still talks about how the fans were in the wrong etc.

Nobody forces him to stay away. Remember how this embargo started - 'for their own safety.'

For me a huge betrayal of the fans, whether it's due to ignorance or not.

It was a very poor judgement call to join that board at that time. Does it stop him from coming to watch Everton play in Goodison or BMD. Hardly. No doubt he will be part of whatever they have planned for the Goodison send off in some form along with other past players.

Don’t care. Footballers are people and exist outside of an Everton shirt. Some of them are lovely, some are knobheads. It’s great if they are lovely people too, but it doesn’t really matter.

He was great for us. He should have no issues coming to Goodison or BMD. If it turns out he’s been a bit of a bad tit - I don’t really care. He was there to give advice, now he’s not really anything. Move on.
