Thinking more Potter

Do find it a little hard to rate some of the recent Brighton managers as a few things came together at the same time there, including some amazing scouting. It feels like Potter is getting a smidge overrated at this point. Obviously he represents a change in style, but his league finishes under Brighton were 15th, 16th (basically on a par with Houghton) and finally 9th (with a GD of -2 that season). Didn't really ever look comfortable at Chelsea.

Think there are better managers out there I think we could attract given the new ownership, stadium, etc. Really do think we could try and get Marco Silva back in the summer and I think fans would trust him now to help build up the squad.

Anyhow, as for the transfer window, the biggest difference we can make for the club would be using whatever money we have to improve the team and patch up some of the holes in the squad. Wasting money on paying off Dyche a few months early seems a bit pointless to me unless we really thought he was taking us down.

With the contract situation next summer of Thelwell and Dyche it makes it harder to recruit. They're not really in a position or inclination to sell 'the project' if they're not going to be a part of it. And players aren't as likely to want to come if they don't know who's going to be in charge and how they setup their teams.

But then we've got the contract situation with the squad where we need to sign[or extend contracts] for about 12 players just to have a squad for next year. So given how long it takes us to complete a deal for anyone we ideally need to have half of these sorted in January. Which isn't going to happen due to a combination of the first point and that we still don't have any money until Branthwaite is sold.

It's a mess, and I wouldn't envy anyone that job.

Think the only possibility of doing much more than a couple loans is if we sell, either Beto or DCL, then again I think that if we sell Beto we have to pay for him first (aren’t we paying for him in instalments or something ?) which would leave us even deeper in financial difficulties.

I’d prefer we got the dof side of things sorted sooner rather than later. No point making signings in January if the current dof and manager are both off at the end of the season.

If they think Thelwell’s the man then sort his contract now - if not get someone in to start planning for the future

A couple of very decent fullbacks could change us considerably, and I'm sure they (whoever they are) would have enough versatility to be able to play under Dyche as much as any other manager.

Probably more about how much different managers might be able to get out of them in their specific setups, but quality is still quality.

As bad as it sounds, our first port of call should be dealing with those sellable assets that are out of contact in the summer. We need DCL to sign up, or we need to be offloading, get Doucoure out the door, and I'd be tempted to extend Gueye. Then look to see what the gaps are

If we're keeping Dyche, then definitely not.

Attacking players don't get a look in unless they're willing to spend most of their time in our own half, doing endless shuttle runs between opposition players as they pass it around and through us, or receiving the ball with their back to play 70 yards from goal with 3 men on them.

I think they extend Thelwell on a “prove it” deal. There needs to be some sort of transition period.
