Getting an elderly statesman manager is absolutely the last thing we need.

We need someone relatively young, with a lot of hunger and drive, with a strong grasp of current tactical trends, who wants to improve players, and who wants to spend a few years building a club up, and growing their own reputation as a consequence.

A current equivalent of a Moyes when he came to us, an Arteta when he went to Arsenal, an Ireola, a Carsley - that should be the blueprint.

And the job should be ideal for those kinds of candidates. It's not a hard sell. We have new owners who will back us financially. We have a new stadium. Expectations are incredibly low because of the last few years, so you can finish mid-table and face no pressure, as long as you are trying to build something sustainable and progressive. The playing squad is about to undergo major changes, because of contracts expiring, so a manager can build the squad the way they want to.

It's actually a very appealing proposition for ambitious managers.

I really don’t think he is too far away from the sack, but should he scrape a couple of wins together, then they might just prefer to leave him in place until the end of the season.

From next season, it should be a completely fresh start. New stadium, new owners, new manager and a new outlook on how we want the club to move forward and play. In no way should Dyche be apart of that future. For now, it’s all about avoiding relegation, which I am sure Dyche will feel most at home with.

I think it's as much as this is how we want to deal with it ourselves mentally, it would be great to wipe it from memory and start a fresh.

There has to be some continuity though, else we're set afloat with a new captain and crewmates who've yet to introduce themselves, let alone navigate the turbulent seas. The vesel ain't yet shipshape or sturdy.

Drive, ambition and freshness is good, but we must have experience above and solid support structures within, to protect any new younger manager.

I'm not sure we have that 100% with Thelwell specifically, and it depends upon how good and many of the newer employees in the support roles are at their jobs.
