Probably the same people who think that Arteta might be worth a punt.
David Moyes
Re: David Moyes
This option is the most boring, but also a very logical, minimally risky option.
I would rather this than Mourinho, that's for sure.
We know that this squad isn't capable of dominating possession or playing free-flowing attacking football. We need to therefore be pragmatic, and whilst we look to adapt the club over the coming years, Moyes coming back will be a safe pair of hands, to keep us in the league at a minimum, away from trouble, and able to build a squad capable of moving into the top half again over the next few transfer windows.
Dyche had clearly run out of ideas. We know Moyes gets results and the best out of his players. That's really all we need over the next 6-12 months.

Re: David Moyes
Was just thinking if Moyes was to become manager again now, of course Seamus Coleman is the only player left from his previous time as manager who is still in the squad and that he will know very well.
But what other players in the current Everton squad has he worked with at other clubs?
I can only think of:
Ashley Young at Man Utd.
Jordan Pickford at Sunderland.

Re: David Moyes
People also have really short memories about Moyes, under Moshiri or TFG he would've been sacked numerous times during his spell with us for abysmal performances. When you look at it overall, its deemed a relative success, but it wasnt all rosy.
If any of the managers that followed him got afforded the same conditions who knows where we might be? And the last manager to win anything for us, Joe Royle, it certainly wasnt Moyes, he bottled it every time we got near the end

Re: David Moyes
Not really feeling the Moyes option, do we not have any options other than those whose surname begin with the letter M?

Re: David Moyes
There is such a disparity between teams in international football these days that results can be misleading.
If Carsley has a reputation as a good coach beyond the results then it may be a case of giving him a role in a new set up, but that decision must lie with whoever gets the manager's job.
Was it Leicester that gave a job to an under 21 coach that turned into a disaster, albeit a few years ago.

Re: David Moyes
Would like to see him sign today and take training tomorrow, obviously not the dream option but I think the best option under the circumstances.

Re: David Moyes
Just sick of the boring safe option all the time if it’s a 6 month contract fine but not more then that
Re: David Moyes
I do think it's incredibly grim to go into the new stadium with David Moyes as manager but I do think it might be what we need at the minute.
Dyche has fucked the plan by being that shit this season.
18 months contract max.

Re: David Moyes
I'd imagine Moyes already understands this team and it's strengths / weaknesses which makes the transition easier than with some managers, hopefully he has a player or two he thinks we can get who will improve us too.
It's not what we want really, but I think the timing of Dyche leaving has made the whole thing much less ideal than it would have been in the summer... I don't think we'd be appointing Moyes had we managed to limp through to the end of the season without changing.
Doesn't exactly feel exciting though does it? Post Dyche was supposed to be a more fun time but it's just going to be a continuation of consolidating and trying to build slowly before eventually changing manager again down the line to someone more progressive.

Re: David Moyes
For me... Recent PL experience and had good seasons at West Ham. Has a history of being able to play half-decent football with limited teams. He's not attached to any other club at the moment. Obviously does have a history with the club, however much that is worth.
I think any other coach brings more risk that isn't really worth taking at this juncture of the season.
Re: David Moyes
What type of message does that say to him and the team? Lads we've got you a new manager, we think hes a bit shit mind you, thats why we will look to get another in during the summer, hardly that empowering for Moyes either, whats the benefits if your new employees think so little of you that you only get that offer.Kerryblueboy wrote: ↑Fri Jan 10, 2025 9:42 am Just sick of the boring safe option all the time if it’s a 6 month contract fine but not more then that
By all accounts that has been the stumbling point, we offered 6 months, he wants at least 18 months. Its not the best way to start a relationship imo
