Everton have turned down an offer from Tottenham Hotspur to alter the terms of a £10 million deal agreed as part of the transfer of Dele Alli. Dele joined Everton in January 2022 on a free transfer but the agreement included clauses relating to the performances of Dele and the team, which meant the final fee could reach £30 million.
One of the clauses stated Everton would have to pay Tottenham £10 million when Dele made 20 appearances for his new side but Spurs have made an offer to reduce the fee to £8 million, in exchange for decreasing the required number of appearances. The deal would ease the potential financial burden on Everton while making a payment to Spurs more likely.
Everton have turned down the proposal, with the club also keen to tweak the structure of the payment, which would currently be due up front after 20 appearances.
The club was handed a ten-point deduction last month for a breach of the Premier League’s profit and sustainability rules, although Sean Dyche’s side have since climbed out of the relegation zone thanks to consecutive wins over Nottingham Forest and Newcastle United. They play at home to Chelsea on Sunday.
Talks over the clause have not progressed, but both clubs remain open to renegotiating the deal, particularly as the clause could represent an obstacle to Dele reviving his career. He has played 13 times for Everton so far, meaning he is seven games away from activating the payment due to Spurs.
Dele said in an interview with Gary Neville in July that he has been addicted to sleeping pills and wrestling with issues stemming from abuse he suffered during his childhood.
The 27-year-old most recently played in February, while on loan at Besiktas, and sustained a thigh injury that needed surgery at the end of last season. But Dyche said on Wednesday he is close to resuming full training. Dele is expected to regain fitness in matches for Everton’s under-21s before potentially playing for the first team again early next year.
“He is going well,” Dyche said. “He is back on the grass with the sports science fitness side, going through football-related drills, but the actual freedom to come and join in with us is not there yet. Hopefully over the next week he will start slowly blending in. He still has a bit to go because he has been out for a long time. But to get him back with us would be really pleasing for him because he has been so unlucky.”

Thats a ridiculously awful offer. We've got 24 league games left. He's long term injured and will probably take half a dozen games off the bench to get match fit even when he's available. Beyond all that his contract is up in the summer and he hasn't been a player of note for a number of years
We simply aren't paying 8m for him or anything like that. His value to us is maybe a couple of million and even then that's assuming he's going to be available soon and still would be an absolute punt
Think it's time to write it off. Give him the cup games off the bench if he's available to get some fitness and give him the 6 games we get for free if he's worth them. He's probably not going to be available to start significantly more than 6 or 7 games anyway and we sure as hell won't want to commit 8m or a contract renewal to him without seeing more football than we are going to get out of him this season

Re: Dele
Especially any deal we get done now would be like a loan. Would anyone be silly enough to pay 8m for maybe 3 months of deli Ali given his injury and recent years of form.
The truth is his value is really close to zero
Also that's 1 of the clauses. They want 8m for that 1 clause. What are the others.. are we going to be in the same position in the summer if we wanted to renew trying to negotiate another clause.
Just get him fit in the reserves and cup games and give him the 6 premier league games or loan him out... need to be giving Spurs nowt.
Well unless they are willing to take say 5m if we renew him instead of all the clauses

Re: Dele
I think what will happen is we will see him back in the team in a couple of months, maybe play him in a few U23 games first before then choosing to play him for about 5 or 6 games but those games will be if we have injuries to attacking players or if we desperately need an option off the bench in a game.
Then at the end of the season he will be released

Re: Dele
He could maybe get the odd game in Jan, when Gana is away and our midfield resources are stretched by other possible injuries and suspensions, while not triggering any payments.

Re: Dele
I really doubt he's going anywhere in the January window, so we may as well use our allotment of games for him IF he's looking the part in training.
Entirely up to Dyche really at this point and Dele if he's motivated to play.
If he can play still...maybe there is a deal to be made in the summer. Otherwise, best of luck to him.
We've seen Ross Barkley's resurgence at Luton, I suppose it could happen for Dele too?

Re: Dele
Would love to see him play well for us. Even if it’s just a couple of games. Be sad if his time here didn’t end in at least something on the pitch to talk about.
