David Moyes
Re: David Moyes - Confirmed
He's done great so far, could / should have had a point against Villa too... Made the right changes and asked us to play with more bravery which has clearly lifted the players.
Great example of his demands on keeping the ball better was how Brighton were very much on top for the first 20 mins even if not creating anything. We hardly saw the ball, then suddenly we got it down and took all the sting out of the game for the next 5 mins, then it became much more even instead of us just hanging on till half time.
Second half was obviously less ambitious but we have the players to shut up shop like we did so have no issues with how we sat back and parked the bus, it's a strength we have and was utilised well.

Not to go off topic, but Moyes is perhaps showing with how he's using these players that Thelwell has done a decent job under difficult circumstances overall. This squad has more options that we saw under Dyche, and probably this was Dyche's biggest mistake this season.Shogun wrote: ↑Sat Jan 25, 2025 5:30 pm This is the difference a manager can make to a squad
We've watched the previous fella going Young&Harrison (occasionally switching with Lindstrom but in the same role) with Ndiaye forced to take on 3 players to make it anywhere near the box.
Moyes comes in and instantly finds a position for both O'Brien and Lindstrom in the team, gets rid of Young&Harrison then frees up space for everyone else to play whilst he is even getting Patterson relevant minutes on the pitch.
There have always been options in this squad, they just haven't been used properly.

It’s not a mistake, it’s a complete lack of managerial ability.blueToffee wrote: ↑Sat Jan 25, 2025 6:04 pm Not to go off topic, but Moyes is perhaps showing with how he's using these players that Thelwell has done a decent job under difficult circumstances overall. Re: David Moyes - Confirmed
He’s added a bit of control and attacking intent to Dyche’s already solid defensive structure which is precisely what we needed.
We’re not especially good in possession or at creating chances in the attacking third but punting both parts of the game is equivalent to inviting the opposition, good or bad, to have at you with no fear of repercussion which is what we were getting under Dyche.
Got a big slice of luck today, that was a very dumb penalty for Brighton to concede, but that can happen when you give the team the green light to attack when the space is there.

Ye of little faith, what you saying now lads?
So good to have him back and turning it round, and to be proving that dyche had become full of absolute shit. The backing he got in the media when he went, when it was plain to see we were probably going down under him, was highly irritating
Great to shove it back in the media’s face tbh
Usual caveat that I think dyche did a great job last 2 seasons keeping us up, but he was done and davey is the guy for us

Itt was always very Moyes to follow a great result with a fuck up though. (And vice versa, to be fair).
Started to stress about Leicester already now

Re: David Moyes - Confirmed
Thing I’m enjoying most is how he’s using the squad.
Obrien straight in and playing well. Criminal that the previous manager didn’t use him whilst we were shipping goals all over the shop.
Lindstrom thriving in a role that gives him freedom and confidence to get forward, instead of having to constantly look over his shoulder and pick up scraps in the final third.
He’s playing as an actual wing back now but it’s still a much more attacking role than how he was previously playing.
Gana was already playing well, but now he’s given freedom to play between the lines he’s showing he has the ability to get us going on the ball. Again, beats just playing it back to the centre halves for them to welly it 60 yards up field.
Ndiaye playing more centrally. When did we ever see him pick up the ball in the middle of the pitch and run at the centre half like he did last week.
Patterson being the first sub yesterday for lindstrom instead of it being young.
Young now being used in his correct role as the experienced old head to see the game out instead of starting every single week.
The more I see of us under moyes, the more I realise we’ve gone two years without seeing actual proper football. Even in the good runs, it was all still relying on set pieces and picking up scraps around the box.
You can see how much the players are loving it. They were willing to dig in and go through all the shite yesterday because they know they’ll be allowed to enjoy their football when the times right.
They stopped doing the dirty work under the previous manager because they were worn down by it and knew if they won the ball it was always certainly coming straight back.

Also nice to get a couple of wins against 2 of the 3 teams (The other Man United 4-0
) that have given us our biggest defeats this season.
Got done 3-0 by Brighton on the opening day and absolutely smashed by Spurs 4-0 despite their deficiencies this season. Must give the players a bit of confidence to beat those sides in particular and slay some demons.

That would’ve earned him a slap around the back of the head under previous regimes!
Re: David Moyes - Confirmed
Often, when you're sat at the wrong end of the table, that can be the difference between staying up and going down. If it feels like some of the squad are pulling in different directions, it can cause a lot of discord, leading to poor performances as those little rifts seem onto the pitch. Bringing the squad together, regrouping and setting a common goal breed unity, which in turn, breeds confidence.
There are going to be plenty of bumps in the road between now and the end of the season, but it's refreshing to know that the squad feel that there is a sense of togetherness and a collective effort to achieve the common goal.
Towards the end of Dyche's tenure, it seemed stale and there did seem to be a lack of unity within the team.

At what point do you think he’ll phase out Doucouré?
Experience shows we can’t pick up points without him but at the same time he’s clearly the limiting factor in so much of our play - a proper conundrum
