Re: January transfer window
Our Tim sounds like an imminent return. Garner will obviously be like a new signing (ducks rotting veg). That's three (including Armstrong) that can share the minutes opened up by Mangala's injury. You aren't overwhelming anybody.
And you're talking, what, 15 matches? 16 with the FA Cup? Absolutely no need to panic over "warm bodies."
A little more worried about Keane being our backup striker, but shit happens and Moyes will pragmatically work through/around it.
Start keeping a rotation of academy lads on the bench, for any games that get out of hand.

Re: January transfer window
Because they're still hampered by PSR as to what they can and can't spend. And they're not stupid. HopefullyAudrey Horne wrote: ↑Fri Jan 31, 2025 3:52 pm I dont understand why you keep saying we have no money? or we will be spending the bare minimum?
Weve got owners who have money and want to invest. And we are completely clear of any debts/issues. So why wouldnt we be spending?
Re: January transfer window
Because owners having money to invest doesn't mean anything. We have to abide by PSR and the last 2 accounts we submitted (21-22 & 22-23) we lost over £130m.Audrey Horne wrote: ↑Fri Jan 31, 2025 3:52 pm I dont understand why you keep saying we have no money? or we will be spending the bare minimum?

Now how much of that counts towards PSR I have no idea, but some will, probably a fair bit.
Even if only half of that counts towards PSR we'd still be at the £65m mark leaving us £50m wiggle room to spend, but again it adds on again the next season to the 3 year period.
Our accounts for this past year haven't been published but by all reports we only just managed to be within PSR limits.
Unless someone can say to me exactly what we have spare in PSR to avoid going over and being punished again then I'll remain pessimistic about our spending power. It's likely to not be great, certainly not when we need 8+ players, most of which need to be starters.
We could have owners willing to invest a billion quid in the squad but if PSR limits us to £50m then that's all we can spend, and that includes agents fees and signing on fees as well as the transfer fee. Unfortunately that doesn't go far.

Re: January transfer window
Yeah you're right. We only have 50 million to spend. Damn. Absolute tragedy. Lets give up now, cos I dont think we will be able to put forward a full squad next season. Maybe sell the new ground ?
Relentless on here.

Re: January transfer window
I don't understand your point, you asked me a question about our spending ability and I've said I don't know what that is but used £50m as an example. You clearly know more than me so feel free to fill me in so I can be less misguided with my relentlessness.Audrey Horne wrote: ↑Fri Jan 31, 2025 4:27 pm Yeah you're right. Completely with Ram on this. We have to stop plugging gaps with players that aren’t going to fit our future plans. We need to be focused on what we want to achieve which is European football on a regular basis. For that, you need a playing style that achieves a good win percentage, and means that you can beat the bottom teams on a regular basis.
And I get what people are saying about relegation. It’s a decent risk at the moment, but beat Leicester this weekend and those concerns really do start to fade into the rear mirror.
The build for the future has already started, and so we want to stop taking other clubs rejects and start hunting for a generation of players to take us back where we want to be.

Am on the fence myself
We do need numbers as we are a couple of injuries away from being in real trouble but we do need to think of the future aswell
It's a tricky one

Re: January transfer window
I'd assume we will have to cover Broja's wages and whoever else we loan from Chelsea which would probably count as two loans in the eyes of the PL.UnsyisaRhino wrote: ↑Fri Jan 31, 2025 3:12 pm I'm hoping we're still trying to work out things with Chelsea with a loan swap for Broja.
Re: January transfer window
We need numbers but loans are the way forward. Looks like we have Alcaraz coming in and I expect another 1/2 to come if possible.
The summer will be the big revamp and so if we can get by until then (which I think we can), then we should.
Re: January transfer window
I don't disagree
Let's see what happens tomorrow and then we will have a clearer picture of if we will be safe or still right in it
I think we should be OK but I also don't want to risk going down
All these plans for the future will be hurt if we don't stay up

Those two Sky transfer blokes that look like they were drawn by the same cartoonist are saying Chelsea are interested in Evan Ferguson.

We’ve, by all accounts, only got a small amount we can spend this window due to PSR controls. I’m assuming you know what those are given we have been national headline news because of them for the last 3 years.
I’ve been led to believe it’s somewhere between about 5-10 mill this window that is available (what we are under for the 3 year rolling PSR period). The 50mill the last guy quoted was just an example.
Once the summer comes we are fine, the really shit PSR years drop off and we are, relatively speaking, good to spend some of the money TFG have, this is the last window we have this issue.
Unless we fuck it up again.
So we’ve barely got fuck all budget for this window. That’s it. The end.
Re: January transfer window
And that’s not being negative btw, I’m actually happy with the position, and I think the other posters were too, what we’ve all said is just the facts (more or less)
