David Moyes
Re: David Moyes - Confirmed
We have done brilliant since moyes came in, while the players have shown they are quite alot better than they shown under dyche it's still a fairly poor squad that needs vast improvement
We are not now suddenly world beaters and we will take some defeats and have some bad patches but at least now we know our team will turn up and have a go
Enjoy the wins but stay grounded and don't let any hiccups make you loose your head
We are going in the right direction
The futures bright, the future is orange!

Re: David Moyes - Confirmed
IF you do well, expectations rise but I think the reality of football these days is there is very little chance of winning anything significant for the vast majority of teams and that's when the frustration kicks in.
Spurs seem like a bit of a case in point, they built a good team but they fire manager after manager because 2nd/3rd/4th wasn't good enough for them in the league. Expectations had risen but fans still don't really get how much of a closed shop it is. You're competing against teams that are state sponsored and/or spend billions and fans get disgruntled because you don't win the league under those conditions...it feels like a huge disconnect.
Maybe you can fluke a cup, get favourable draws, but even that is getting harder. In the last 10 years only 1 team outside of the "top 6" has won either the FA or league cup (Leicester).
I would add as the above was bit of a downer, I think there is plenty to enjoy in football still without necessarily winning a trophy in the short term. Being able to enjoy the team playing well and getting into Europe and all that brings is good times for a lot of clubs. Plus Europe at it's lower levels is still an avenue as Moyes showed with West Ham to compete in and possibly win. It's just a shame with how things are structured doing more than that is often a pretty tall order.

If Trump wasn't POTUS I'd be more hopeful that this was the case

Re: David Moyes - Confirmed
Same with any manager,. think because we got 11 years out of Moyes previously it's in the back of our minds that he'll be here a long time again... It's possible but be it 3, 5 or 11 years it'll end at some point because it's stopped working or he can't take us to the next level.
I just hope we don't do a West Ham where we think we're too good for him and replace for someone who takes us backwards in the name of vanity. He's got a big job on his hands here and I want him to be given as long as it takes to get us back in to the top half regularly and thinking about challenging for Europe eventually.
Re: David Moyes - Confirmed
His job is to secure a solid base for the club in all respects and leave it in a better place than he found it. He has a 2 and half year contract and I’m not sure we will see him go much beyond that.
The goal has to be top half initially from next season. Mid table was the goal this season but that’s going to be a little harder given the start we have had under Dyche. However we did get a mid table finish last season when discounting the points deductions, so this squad is very capable to kick on if we add some quality.

Re: David Moyes - Confirmed
Wonderful from Boyland; “as many inside the club believed, that they have more quality than they have been showing under Dyche”

I can't believe how.much has changed , even as an admirer of miyes, I felt it would.take a.lot.libger to turn it round. Shows how badly we were being managed

I don’t think he cares.Stumpy wrote: ↑Sun Feb 02, 2025 4:34 pm The bit where you say how horrible it was under dyche was on my mind last night.
Fair play to you, you have been banging the drum about the players being better than they have been showing for months and i will be honest as i've posted earlier in this thread i couldn't see it, i really thought they were shite.
After the last 4 games and the huge improvement in the team what was on my mind last night was what the hell was Dyche doing to this team to make them play like they were for months on end, no threat going forward, just totally reliant on set pieces to try a nick a goal.
And what i was thinking last night was that Dyche must be so embarrassed to now see what's happened to us now moyes has taken over after what he said that he'd taken us as far as he could with this bunch of players.
As i've posted before i am grateful to him for keeping us up after Lampard and last season after the 2 points deductions
But jesus what happened to him to turn us into shambles we were before he left?
I genuinely think he’s at the point where this is purely a financial thing for him. He comes into a club where expectations are on the floor, does the basics, makes a team solid at the back, then takes the pay off when people realise he can’t get a team to score goals.
I don’t think he’s interested in studying the game or improving himself as a coach. He has his way of coaching which to me seems to be the most basic way of setting a premier league team up in the modern game.
For example, when Eddie Howe was out of a job he went across the world to learn more about the game to see how he could improve as a manager and come back a completely different coach. Dyche will just do the podcast rounds, have golfing holidays and wait for the next desperate team to throw millions at him in the hope he can 1-0 his way to safety.
You could see for a long time the players weren’t coached on how to use the ball. The only pattern of play we had was long balls down the channels. Other than that it was all off the cuff.
Then when you don’t score, because you’ve put all the responsibility on the players it’s easy for him to dig them out after the game.
I imagine it got really disheartening for the players to have to play like that and you can see how much they’re all enjoying their football now.
Moyes will demand all the off the ball work dyche did, but he repays the players in giving them freedom and good instructions on how to create chances.
I think any manager at this level could set a team up the way dyche does, but they don’t because they know it doesn’t get results in todays game.

I also like to think Dyche is embarrased, I certainly believe he should beStumpy wrote: ↑Sun Feb 02, 2025 4:34 pm The bit where you say how horrible it was under dyche was on my mind last night.

however... i suppose what i really think is he will be sat there going "those useless c%nts didnt do that when I was in charge, its just a manager bounce thing, nothing to do with me, not my fault, plus I got those types of performances out them a few times as well" type stuff
basically he isnt going to admit to himself, or anyone else, that he was fucking it up
Re: David Moyes - Confirmed
Except as you mentioned many times on here it got us the same points as 11th last season.TheRam wrote: ↑Mon Feb 03, 2025 11:00 am I don’t think he cares.

I think it does work, but it doesn't work for a long period and he can't adapt to progress a team beyond battling relegation scrappers.

Re: David Moyes - Confirmed
Think he's basically this generation's Allardyce. Even their names are quite similar - Sean/Sam, Allardyc(h)e. Popular with the media as meat-and-potatoes throwbacks to a better time of old school footy.
Similar career trajectories - build a reputation with an unfashionable North West club (Bolton/Burnley), steady the ship elsewhere (Blackburn, West Ham/Everton) and then just parachute in to try and low block teams out of trouble.
Dyche did very well to keep us up the last couple of seasons but massively exposed his own stubbornness and limitations this season. Hard to think he'll care - he fulfilled his brief and we were outside the relegation zone when he left. But watching us play like we did against Tottenham and Leicester - coupled with the defensive resolve we showed against Brighton - should be mortifying for him, after admitting he'd run out of ideas.

I just think we broke Dyche. He probably performed to his maximum capabilities last season, but you can't underestimate the pressure he must have been under with no board, no money, fans pissed off at the owner etc.
I've worked in a job with extreme pressure and at some point you will have had enough and you never get your mojo back. It's better for everyone he's gone and probably a massive relief for him.
We now get a steady pair of hands to build us back up. Hopefully we get at least a couple of seasons of good squad building before people start getting frustrated with Moyes.
