VAR - Vastly Always Rubbish

Post

Maybe worth keeping a track on what's gone for us and against even if it's just so we can vent when things like today rob us of a potential win.

Recently I can think of:

Lindstrom pushed whilst DCL is dragged to the ground in a headlock Vs Villa - VAR didn't give us a fairly blatant penalty.

Beto nudge on Konate - VAR actually saw in our favour, and even though that was the correct decision it was surprising.

Young shirt pulled Vs UTD - Didn't bother to show the ref the angle that clearly showed the foul and got him to overrule the onfield decision which was a correct one and certainly not a clear and obvious error.

Other issues - time taken to make decisions...

The Doucoure goal today took I think 3 and a half minutes even though it was clear Beto wasn't interfering with play. It took them I think the same or slightly longer when Mateta was clearly not offside against us. I'm not sure what they're looking at on their screens for so long when the rest of us can see the correct call within 30 seconds!

2 people, not one, brought him down, grabbing the shirt and all kinds.

Fed up of it now.

The only thing VAR has been good for is highlighting just how bad the officiating is now.

Only thing good was we got to celebrate Beto's goal twice. Apart from that, horrendous.

Think it needs to be used more like Cricket. You can challenge a decision. If its an incorrect challenge you lose it.

2 per half. 6 minutes they took to try rule out our first today. It should not take that long, absolutley abysmal fan experience.

It was a shit idea because it doesn't alter the fact many decisions are a matter of opinion. Goal line technology works because a ball has either completely crossed a line or it hasn't. You could extend that right across the byline and up the touchline if you want and be exceptionally accurate on whether the ball has gone out of play or not.

When it is being used to adjudicate whether someone was active or passive or whether a challenge was a red or not, you can watch it fifty times and not reach an agreement and what this has proved is officials disagree as often as fans.

I hated the idea and thought it would be enjoyment sappingly dreadful. Unfortunately it hasn't proved as good as I hoped.

They won't bin it, although they absolutely should so the best clubs can do is unanimously oppose any extensions to it's remit. It's only major impact for me has been in making the game less enjoyable.
In a world full of adversity, we must still dare to dream.

To extend it to referees in general, I come out of every match lately just baffled by referees.

Feels like we make one foul and it's a yellow card whilst the opposition get away with murder.

It happened with the shite and it even happened yesterday. Fernandes took someone out around the half-way line and the ref played on without even talking to him afterwards and Maguire completely took out Beto in a similar position after he'd been done and there was loads of space for Beto to run into in behind... Yet no booking. These are nailed on bookings that refs just don't seem to want to give?

I don't know if it's them not wanting to give into the pressure of the Goodison crowd and making a statement of their own but it's fucking frustrating

I don't mind var as an idea. It seems to work in other leagues.

I think the issues are the refs are often inept and almost always cowardly (in favour of the big teams)
Also the clear and obvious is a bit daft too. It leads to a probably wasn't but can't be overturned situation over and over again (though not always because rules aren't always there to be followed anyway)

VAR was meant to level the playing field. All it's done is given them another means of bias against the fodder playing the elite

Refs seem to get praised for not booking players these days..... i don't get that. Surely they are just meant to follow the bloody rules regardless of the occasion or the minute of the match.
