Need some realism as to the actual situation rather than just what we’d like

We’re still tied to PSR rules, so we aren’t massively outspending competing teams, we’re needing a huge rebuild, not every signing is going to work out

We’ve got a new stadium that’ll help with finances but it won’t particularly move the bar, how are Middlesbrough and Sunderland doing?

Spurs moved into theirs off the back of about 10 European seasons beforehand, they’ve not exactly improved their league position at all

Nothing crazy about what Ram is saying, we need to have that vision and strategy as a club. We might fall short but it's not impossible to achieve that, so we have to aim for it over an appropriate timeframe.

I think they will definitely be aiming for European football within 2/3 years, and they absolutely should be. We're not living in the era where the same Top 4 is locked in every year, and the rest are fighting for scraps. There's the opportunity for upward (and downward) mobility, as Forest have shown.

The quality of recruitment is more important than ever, and that's what has distinguished sides like Forest, Bournemouth, Brighton etc.

So that being said, this summer is absolutely humungously important for how we're going to fare in the next 5 years. It's a huge opportunity yes, but also we need to get a lot of stuff right, so there's a lot of pressure on Moyes and the recruitment team to be on the same page.

One of the huge benefits of the results we've achieved under Moyes is that we've practically guaranteed safety already, so the club can afford to really focus on recruitment for the summer now. Given that we need to recruit say 8-10 players, that could be hugely helpful.

To acclimatise so many players at once is going to be hugely difficult managerially, so the earlier we get them in the better. I don't want to see the club scrambling around in August, needing another 5 players.

So we buy 7 players this summer worth £50m each.

Dismissing the fact we actually pay the majority of that upfront, our books allow us to amortise it over the contract. So this year "only" shows 7 x £10m on the books.

So we are £70m in the red with PSR this year.
And we start next year on minus £70m again before any player trading.

And every year after that until the 5th year.

We become utterly reliant on selling to buy in the first year of moving into the new stadium

What i am saying is that with new sponsorship and new stadium revenue, this doesnt necessarily mean we start every season in the red.

The stadium changes our financial outlook. You are failing to recognise that. These deals become possible because of what will now becoming into the club.

When i say we could be able to spend 75 million in PSR terms that could easily be covered by the stadium sponsorships.

Its literally what City do.

I doubt Forest will sustain it either for the rest of the season or beyond though. Highly likely it's a flash in the pan and they'll be mid table again next season, especially if they keep a top 7 place and have Europe to contend with.

It'd be great to have a Forest type season but I'd much rather we built slowly and sustainably instead of peaks and troughs as I imagine they'll have.
