I like him, as we all do. But if £70m is offered and we are able to add £50m* the current reported budget, then more can be done with £100m to £150m given the work the squad needs, we would have to say yes.

*used £50m as going on football manager (yeah I know), not all clubs spend 100% of what they bring in, so presuming we wouldn't

But there’s a difference between being quietly open to offers and letting clubs, agents know. This way it’s known that no bargains will be had. Supposedly.

Oh yeah completely, just meant we shouldn't take that as Branthwaite will be staying no matter what, Moyes is basically just saying that it'll take a large bid for us to consider selling.

There's a 15% sell on clause to take into account as well

Good point, so £70m becomes less than £60m.

There's no evidence of JB agitating for a move, either. He's been very mature wrt knowing there is plenty of time for that inevitable "big move."

It all revolves around if anyone actively makes a bid, then everything changes. Defenders at their best don't command the value of midfielders and strikers so if someone offers good money you can't ignore it. Want him to stay for years but there are good defenders out there for far less money than we would bring in.

5 deals for the most expensive 10 CBs have been in the last 3 years.

2023 Gvardiol £77m
2022 Fofana £75m
2022 De Ligt £65m
2024 Yoro £60m
2022 Martinez £57m

But then the shite (despite never spending money on a player ever) spent £75m on a 26 year old Van Dijk from Southampton in 2018.

Not sure there's too much logic when it comes to transfer fees, just depends how desperate the buying and selling club is in their positions.

Branthwaite is English, proven in the PL, only 22, left-footed (or both footed even), isn't forcing a move and we don't want to sell him. It's going to take a pretty huge fee, potential record breaking for a CB, if he's to leave Everton this summer.

Unless United come back in with their unlimited, not affected by PSR whatsoever, mass amount of money then I think it's far more likely he stays at Everton than leaves.

What year did Maguire join United from Leicester? As he was £80M

Been a good 5 years, hasn't it?

Amusing to think that 4 of the most expensive CBs ever currently play for Man United in Maguire, De Ligt, Yoro and Martinez.

Didn't realise he'd been there that long to be honest.

As has been mentioned we do need to factor in the 15% sell on clause.

Be a great payday for Carlisle that too.

We surely should have bought out that sell on clause from his former club

Don’t think that’s common practice ? But anyway, Carlisle aren’t idiots, would have had a fairly clear idea of what his market value was heading towards.

There were rumours of this about a year ago but no idea about the veracity of them though

Presumably once he broke into the first team they’d be wanting at least five mil plus to buy it out - and we’ve been unable to afford that
