I watched that a couple of weeks ago, it reminded me why I hadn't watched it for years. All "banter", taking the piss out of each other, slagging each other off and dropping the odd F bomb all in the name of fun. Terrible programme.

The cult following he has with some of our fans is ludicrous despite all the evidence pointing towards him being nothing other than bang average

Just like Theseus, Hercules, Apollo & Achilles, Potter is nothing more than a myth
I think there's a lot to be admired with how he went to Sweden and worked his way up through their divisions whilst beating some pretty big teams in Europe like Arsenal. One season at Swansea then did well at Brighton where despite more hipster managers coming in only one season under De Zerbi has seen any improvement in their league placing from Potter's last season there, and then they finished 11th the following season.

Chelsea was a weird club to step up to at the time and completely the wrong choice imo, although the reported £20m he's received was probably worth the reputation hit.

Hasn't started well at West Ham but I think he'll come good there if given time.

Always feel like people sneer at bit at English managers, just look at the comments about Howe before he went to Newcastle and people still LOVE to bring up any time Newcastle lose by a few even if they're doing great overall. Not sure why that is but I'll always root for them as we need more successful English managers, it's criminal that most Premier League jobs are taken by foreign coaches.

It's nothing to do with him being english

It's more to do with the fact many on here have built him up to be some sort of football God

His one win for West ham only came because Fulham was being suicidal and gifted West ham the ball twice while fucking around in there own box, Fulham should have won that easy, if it wasn't for their own stupidity with the ball

Potters record should really be 0W 1D 4L

I'm just talking about in general, the demand for instant success in the premier league era has meant English coaches have been overlooked almost constantly in favour of someone from abroad who's already established themselves. This has then resulted in English managers being viewed as a bit crap by people because they've never been given the opportunities they would have if they were saying German and managing in Germany.

That's really seeped in to our footballing culture to the point most people can't wait for an English manager to fail to match their pre conceived notion.

In terms of Potter he's won a game, you can't go back and say he shouldn't have had that win, maybe there's games they've been unlucky in so would you then change his record positively? As Dyche once said, our run of bad results would have looked better if we'd had a few wins too.

According to the papers Dyche is due a six figure sum as part of his settlement when Moyes does what he chickened out of - keeps us up.

Its not the fact they're English thats the main problem with English managers, its the tribalism attached to them from their playing career. Pretty much everyone who wasn't a Liverpool fan has wanted Gerrard to fail wherever he's been. Lampard is slightly different in that people seem to quite like him, he's just not very good. People don't want Howe to fail. They want Newcastle to fail. Similar with Potter, I was happy for him to succeed at Brighton, and wanted him to be good at Chelsea just to try and keep the league interesting, but do I want to see him do well at West Ham? Absolutely not because they're a horrible club.

I think potter is a good manager and I’d still swap him for moyes today.

Both good managers, potter is someone who’s relies on his system and the players being able to perform in it.

Moyes is a pragmatist who gets a squad of players and tweaks the system to suit the players.

We’ll see how it goes long term for both managers.

I’m certainly not going to be giving it the big one to any fanbase as we’ve been here before with plenty of managers.

They all had their time in the sun and all saw their arse.

Hopefully that changes with new ownership and I’am optimistic about moyes taking us forward, but also think potter would have been a good appointment.

For those far smarter than me.....well all of you...going by the stats if our forwards were as good as our defence, ( xg whatever) would that change our league.position?
Just interested after watching pickfords best saves this season.

1 win and 1 draw in 6 since Potter took over at West Ham.

I think the context and the job required matters.

For our situation, Moyes was a much better appointment than Potter. We simply couldn't afford a period of grace where a manager learns the ropes and tries to put some long-term patterns and behaviours in place that maybe you don't see the benefit of until next season.

We needed someone who is accustomed to working with limited resources and maximising effectiveness quickly. It's a huge bonus that he knows the club and is almost the AntiDyche, in the sense that he immediately calls us ''we'' and talks the players and the club up.

That's not to say that Moyes is necessarily better than Potter overall (although I think he is), but if we were sat here with Potter as manager and had 1 win from 6 games with injuries mounting up, we'd be in a world of intense anxiety.

I actually think this West Ham gig is quite high pressure for Potter. If things go badly for him there, after the Chelsea debacle, he suddenly starts to look like quite damaged goods.

I hate this part of the optimistic fan base period of having a tiny bit of a positive run.

We're all looking at the fixtures thinking 25+ points aren't we?

None of us learn and come December next year there'll be a "Moyes out thread" when we've lost 4 on the bounce.

I wish people would stop assuming that a brief period of form (good or bad) somehow proves a point they made one way or the other.

Potter is a good manager.
Moyes is a good manager.
There are better options than both.
There are worse options than both.

Dyche was shit and had to go though

Little bit disingenuous that.

It's a bit more than ''a tiny bit of a positive run''.

We've completely alleviated all anxiety about relegation in a matter of a few weeks, and it's allowed the fanbase to enjoy Goodison in it's final season and dream of Bramley Moore after years of psychological torture, wondering if we'd be relegated or even cease to exist. It's a huge shift. People are right to be enthused and overjoyed.

Biggest indicator of the psychological shift is that there was no meltdown after the Bournemouth cup loss. People recognised that we still tried to win the game, and that Bournemouth are a good side playing well.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but you're not a massive Moyes fan are you? Seem to recall some other comments along that line.
