Not sure anyone is saying you can't be negative, but the overarching vibe in the preseason has been overwhelmingly negative, and even the good points are being tarnished by negative predictions. Hackney has looked good and played consistently all preseason, but will definitely be on the bench for the foreseeable, for example.TrevorSteven wrote: ↑Fri Aug 21, 2026 3:25 pm There is a couple of fans here that are happy with what we have done in this transfer window - then it is funny to see a depressed Moyes saying that his squad is low on numbers and not in a position to fight for those European places.
That's what he said - straight out.
By his comments you will also probably see O´Brien at right back and probably Armstrong in midfield sending Hackney to the bench.
Worst of all - he doesn't want a right back just to get a right back - he wants someone that makes us better. Saying that some of the deals was off because of injury tells you all about Moyes thinking that Alistair Johnston is that kind of a right back. No wonder we extended the contract on Mykolenko. I would like to tell Moyes that I rather see O`Brien at right back than wasting money on that Celticboy.
We will win tomorrow - but for god sake - I am allowed to be negative - Moyes has to cheer up and make his squad believe in themselves!
I'm happy with the business we have done, but not happy with the squad and the business we should have done, namely a right back and I'd agree that right now we might still be a signing or two away from where we need to be to truly compete for europe, especially as spurs will probably be back in the mix.
It's possible to be happy about some parts and unhappy about others.
To summarise, sign a right back.
