Definitely, we all want to see it, and if it comes then fine but I just think that it puts further pressure on the team builders in the back room, raises expectation and probably if anything sets us back by having to compete in many more games with an ultra thin squad.Cereal Killer wrote: ↑Wed Dec 17, 2025 10:23 pm Not sure we can opt out after we’ve won the cup though…
Yeah we are more likely to be able to attract the Fofana types that rejected us in the summer, but equally wouldn't be able to spend that kind of money on one player with us needing so many extra bodies to fill out a squad capable of managing multiple competitions.Cods wrote: ↑Wed Dec 17, 2025 10:59 pm Definitely, we all want to see it, and if it comes then fine but I just think that it puts further pressure on the team builders in the back room, raises expectation and probably if anything sets us back by having to compete in many more games with an ultra thin squad.
The corollary is that we might attract better players if in Europe, if we can afford to buy them.
I'd like to think the Friedkins have learned from the Textor farce and have prepared for this.Bluebridge wrote: ↑Thu Dec 18, 2025 5:17 am It’ll be interesting to see what happens if we did qualify and Roma, as expected, do.
True but if we qualified in 18 months time after buying a few young but instant impact players in the summer it would allow us to then buy the depth to add to that quality the following summer, and that makes being in and around the European places more sustainable.Bumble wrote: ↑Thu Dec 18, 2025 9:35 am Bonkers to say we would rather not qualify for Europe. What are we even doing as a fooball club if you don't aspire to win matches and clock up some great experiences. We're never going to win the league, never going to win a cup so a few European adventures is the most we can hope for bearing in mind where we are as a club.
True but I'd say there's a much larger chance we go backwards in the league if we have to juggle Europe too, and have to change our transfer strategy to buy more depth over quality... I don't think that's an outrageous statement given it's pretty much what all teams experience outside the top few.weimaranerblues wrote: ↑Thu Dec 18, 2025 11:01 pm Nothing guaranteed whether you finish in Europe or not ,
Same as the league no guarantee you go forward from 11 to 7 , or the opposite we get Europe and Struggle.
I'd rather get it now , and if we have cash to spend ,
Could keep vultures away from the likes of Ndiaye...
lets face it we simply could not cope with europe this season but if we qualified for the conference next season - along with 2 transfer windows and add to our squad - 100% yeahBumble wrote: ↑Thu Dec 18, 2025 9:35 am Bonkers to say we would rather not qualify for Europe. * Looks at a midfield of Tim, Garner and Alcaraz and strongly disagrees.
