I am not writing him off but he isn't coming in firing on all cyclinders which is why we are getting him in a swapsies.

I hope it works out for us as that means we will be a better team but something went seriously wrong at Palace, like he forgot how to play football or something.

We have a recent history of non redemption stories.

I think hes a very clever signing as a straight swap.

He's only 25 and had a couple of PL seasons previously that McNeil could only dream of.

Not expecting him to be brilliant and he might continue to be as shit as his last 18 months but I'm absolutely confident he's a Premier League standard wide player and I'm almost certainly confident that Dwight McNeil isn't.

We've made a cracking deal here even if it doesn't work out.

You've got to wonder why Palace are willing to take such a financial hit after less than a year.

Bless Dwight. The head down when he wants to run faster but goes at the same pace.

The ridiculous effort to avoid touching the ball with his right foot.

That deep in swinging cross that often goes out for a goal kick.

Proper quirky player.

Good luck to him though, he seems like a nice lad.

Get some balls played beyond the full back for him to scamper on to and square them for Barry or whoever can catch him up for a tap in.

Haven't seen simple but effective play like that from us in a long, long time.

I've not been a fan, but I also don't watch him regularly so I'll reserve my pitchfork use for a bit :)

I will say though that its a big positive when you have players in as many positions as possible comfortable with scoring goals. We've had too many sides where if 1 or 2 players were having an off day it felt like we weren't going to score, so more goal avenues added to the team is usually a good thing.

Maybe he could even be used as a makeshift striker in behind.

Can see initially a 'last 30 minutes throw on Brennan/George' tactic against tired legs.

Predictable but hopefully effective.

I’m excited.

Played well at Forest, played well at Spurs. Palace has been an unusual blip. For whatever reason, as long as it is not down to some undeclared injury or fitness issue - there’s no reason we can’t have the good version play for us.

I think George will have a fairly big role to play this year, much more than last year. Johnson adds something different that we don’t have and so lends itself to being more of a super sub.

Super sub?

Best season at Forest scored 19 all comps.
Best season at Spurs- 18.

If I’m Moyes I’m trying him out in a system that suits him and literally any other fucker can be the ‘super sub’.

As positive as I am about this signing, I think we need to be patient with him as the likelihood is we'll get the Palace version until his confidence comes back.

Best case scenario is he gets an early goal for us and goes from strength to strength, but it might not work out that way.

I feel the other way around - seems like most people are positive about signing him.
But I do think this signing has a «Everton sign an old Tottenham winger» all over itself. Its a new Aaron Lennon and Andros Townsend.
