Think he would be best eased in as a left wing back/left mid
He definitely looked more comfortable against United
On a positive note I thought he looked to get higher up the pitch than Myko does usually and hes fast and energetic.
They will coach the defensive side into him I’m sure, but I don’t think he was disastrous yesterday at all
He tried a couple of dribbles that didn’t come off which probably dented his confidence a bit
He’s young though and we paid for potential rather than the finished product

Was he quick? There was one part on the break where he was struggling to keep up with one of their slower players, that was a bit of a surprise to me.
Neat and tidy on the ball and looked for passes forward and inside like Baines/Digne used to do rather than just back to the CB or down the line like Myko does
Yeah it was a weird 1 because he looked like he was running in cement but ended up winning the ball back. Can't remember but they either played a poor pass or took too long
He was poor but it was only a pre season friendly and against really good opposition.

Not disagreeing with people's assessment of being poor positionally, as I didnt watch the game. But I dont think I've ever seen a young full back not be accused of being poor positionallly, Coleman had it early on and Baines and every young pretender in between.
Its one of those lazy tropes that gets rolled out as soon as a team loses possession up the pitch and the full back who we all want to 'bomb on' is unable to teleport himself back into the backline instantly and everyone points to him being caught up the pitch. Baines used to get it all the time for England. Really you need your defensive mid to drop in and provide cover if the ball is lost.
Just a bugbear of mine, i'm sure there will be other positional aspect to point to he could work on and the lad is no doubt not yet the finished article at 19, I've never heard of a fullback who was.
*alright..watched the goal ball watching and didnt track the run.
For me he kept getting caught really tight to his player. Right up against them. Maybe too eager to win some balls back

The goal was just one of many….in the first half he was getting caught too square inside leaving too much space out wide for their wide man…..in second Half though I picked up on branthwaite calling him to get tighter inside….so maybe not his fault at all……ye can see there’s something there tho…didn’t let his head drop….kept looking for the ball…..
19 a friendly in front of 55k in a new stadium with lots of expectation thrown in at the deep end….
Pass given for the lad…

Agreed, needs time and patience. My patto gag was only in jest I promise.

Honestly I was really impressed. Maybe I didn’t have a good enough perspective to appreciate the positional stuff, but his touch, pace and tackling all seemed to be good and he also wanted to take risks going forward which was refreshing (it was only a preseason friendly). The only area of improvement I registered was physical strength.

I’m confident in saying he’ll be better than Luke Garbutt

Exactly what I thought. Way too tight on his man. Got turned very easily. As others have said, would prefer to see him take up a less defensively critical position slightly further up the pitch until he finds his feet or we will be very vulnerable.

I think it’s his physicality that had him so tight in there like a little terrier.

Looked way off it to me, but he'll get better this season. Wouldn't start him against Leeds, it wouldn't go well for him or the result.

KDH's corners were a noticeable improvement

We’ll probably end up with Grealish and KDH as our righty and lefty set piece takers.
