His age isn’t a worry for me, it’s not like he’s ever been the most mobile or athletic so it’s going nowhere with age.
IF (and it’s a big if mind you) he can get back to form then he’s still got four or five seasons in him at the top level.
so if it’s a big if then it’s a no.

It’s one of them for me. Obviously we want to sign the next Rodri for buttons who’s also ready to go in the prem but that’s a pure fantasy. He has genuine quality and if we can get a loan on subsidised wages then £20m option and he’ll accept maybe 90-100k in wages on a permanent then we can’t find better. I want it

Has there been any actual concrete links to this guy?
Small bit in the echo about a week back but I don't remember much else.

I think of all the gambles we’ve taken he’d be the most promising, but we’ve had our pants pulled down too many times. Swerve.

I don't even think that is true. He looks a lot further gone than schneiderlin or probably even Walcott. It's almost like gambling on them after us given his poor time at West ham. On loan its not the end of the world but it's not a clever risk to be taking

I’d rather his loan fee and wages be spent elsewhere, shame as he was a top player, we just can’t afford the risk.

No, just a few weeks back Sky made a comment about his availability on loan, talk sport picked it up and from there it took on a life of its own, doubt very much we were ever interested.

I think it's worth looking at. It's not a like he's a winger or a striker, positions where you can lose it at a young age and never get back to that level. Centre mid, especially DM, is a position where age improves a player.
If he can be whipped into shape and get some of his confidence back I think you'd see the quality again.

Just read something saying he doesn't want to go out on loan again. I'm not sure anyone is going to risk 20m plus and 4 or 5 years at 100k a week given what he's done at City and West ham

Whispers of Weston McKennie as an alternative as Juve have left him at home from their pre-season tour

Weird. Suddenly I feel like Philips might be a decent option.

McKennie is a solid all-around midfielder. I know he was shit at Leeds but I don’t think that spell is properly reflective of him as a player. He has his warts but does a lot of things really well. Puts in a big shift without the ball but still supports the attack well.
Not a great passer though and that’s been our big midfield weakness since we sold Gareth Barry.
I’d be disappointed if he was the only player we added in that area but I do think he’s worth looking at for the right price since Dyche loves his box-to-box workhorses. Wonder how cheap Juve are looking to offload him. Could be an opportunity to buy low on an unwanted player who could go up a level in the right team.

I'll be very happy when this topic falls of first the page.

That Mckennie as Leeds spell is an all timer for how bad he was. Sure there was loads of flapping over them signing him as well.
Overweight as well.
Absolute plodder.

All current Murrikan players are significantly over-hyped, IMO. Domestic coaching is also dreadful, mind.
Let them go to Serie A, and stay there.
