No doubt about it, and Turkey played well too, it sounded a more electric atmosphere and bigger support than a Germany home game. Brilliant.

I feel it was an elimination of one of the dark horses, I think Austria's gameplay will have matched and troubled the bigger teams slightly more than Turkey's. And in a way it's a shame Austria's exciting play has finished for this tournament.

Not a fan of Turkey going through after seeing their goal scorer celebrate with the Grey Wolf gestures - got no time for that hardcore right shit.

I can never get my head around how the diaspora of a country can have hardcore nationalists, how do you end up that way when living in a new country

Yeah that is disappointing to see. I suppose I wouldn't be against Turkey going through because one of their players did a far right gesture. I think there were reports that some fans in the stadium also did the same gesture. Again it seems to be a tiny minority in a vast group of people.

In terms of how people who move abroad can tend towards ultra nationalism, I guess it's a complex issue. You could argue that there's a degree of overcompensation to prove how Turkish you are, in this instance, to avoid accusations of being a sellout. I think also when people are in a minority living abroad, if they feel there is some xenophobia or anti-immigrant sentiment around them it can push them towards nationalism as a response. Also Turkey already has a complex relationship with nationalism and empire, given the collapse of Ottoman Empire and the feeling that their ''former glories'' are behind them.

I'm obviously not seeking to justify any far right sentiment. Just trying to understand it a bit.
