To push on we can't have both Garner and Gana in there. Drop KDH back and play Alcaraz, or bring in Rohl. Meanwhile promoted Sunderland will have Xhaka bossing it against us tonight.

KDH has been a hideous signing. Partly cos hes a bit shit with no sell on value and partly because hes pushed alcaraz out who at least makes things happen sometimes

Exactly. I’m sure we could have got a decent full back for that money. FFS

Not being able to compete for the 2nd ball when it’s pinging back from either direction is crushing us. Desperate for a big fella in there to get amongst it and not just keep asking Gana to do everything and Garner to go home.

Historically did we tend to get better as the season went on under Moyes?
Might just be wishful thinking from me here, or me misremembering but did feel like we would usually end the season pretty well and go on decent runs of form later on after slightly ropey starts

Always baffled at James garners pass completion stats.
Like what is it you’re doing with the ball.
Get to full back lad.

Especially as he favours the safer sideways or even backwards passes most of the time. Which is even more frustrating because when he wants to he can thread.

I want to punch something when I see his arrogant smug video when they announce teams in the ground.
Pointing at himself and mouthing, who me?

Reckon if Rohl starts O'Brien won't, but otherwise he'll keep Jake in for his height.
Desperately need to move Garner to RB though, he's looked sound defensively there and at LB so I have zero worries about him in that position, and his crossing is a real danger to the opposition.
Hoping we see this happen tonight, as if it's the same team again it's going to be a slog and a return home empty handed.

The thing with garner is that conservative coaches like Moyes and dyche like him because he runs around a lot and throws himself into tackles the set pieces delivery stuff is nonsense he can cross a good ball but not consistently put him right back and play Rohl

If KDH was 21 he wouldn't be getting a sniff, the fact that Moyes likes his older pros over younger talent means he gets a free pass. Just swap him for a ball carrier like Alcaraz and see if we become more progressive in the centre of the park.

Moyes instead has often been slow when identifying the best functioning team, he even played Lescott at LB and Valente too before placing more trust in Baines back in the day. Plus he didn’t know how to utilise Jagielka until he found he actually worked best as a centre half rather than a utility player.
We tend to do better anyway the second half of a season, when he finds a winning formula plus we tended to have better fitness and stamina than many other teams at that point.

In the earlier years, we tended to have 1 good calendar year followed by one bad one. So each season was half shit, half good. Then the following season would be half good, half shit.

The issue with using Baines and Jags as examples are that Moyes was instrumental in making them both two of the best players of that generation for us... So it's hard to know whether he's calling things correctly with certain players or not early in their careers with us, as we saw in his previous stint that long term the pain was worth it.
Who knows eh? I do have a sneaking suspicion Garner at RB has the potential of some Jags at CB type revelation long term but also probably not... clinging to anything right now that's not Jake at RB more than anything.

If Moyes starts putting Garner at right back he won’t be signing that new contract.
