He's just deflecting because he can't tell the truth which would throw Tim under the bus and probably O'Brien too... Probably some others along the way.

We lost last night because Tim cost us 2 goals (one joint with Pickford for responsibility) and because we had zero balance with O' Brien at RB. He's not going to come out and say that though because he's probably going to have to continue using both players over the next few games and beyond.

That post needs context also. It wasn’t the only thing he said.
Whoever posted that was simply stirring a pot brimming with shit.

“They were much better than us,” admitted Moyes. “We actually played pretty well with the ball. But the bigger thing was how quick they broke. Every time we gave the ball away they got on to our back line too quickly and it caused us problems. We couldn’t stop it.”

I don't think what he's said was good. It did sound defeatist to some degree but if we all accept the vast majority of their players yesterday were better than ours (Gana and Branthwaite would have helped) when looking at the line ups then there is some logic to us having to over perform and them under perform to get a result.

It's obviously more complicated than that. Shape, set up and approach can mitigate that and that's why the top teams don't win every game and (Wolves aside) the bottom sides do win games.

I didn't think we'd get battered yesterday but having watched them beat City last week I wasn't surprised by losing and having given away the fastest goal all season from a corner and then had our consistently best player let one straight through him, it looked a massive uphill struggle.

It was shite but it was also only five days after one of our most tactically astute enjoyable wins in years. We have to take the rough and the smooth to some extent I think.

But he could have expressed it better

Nah, I’m not buying that, he didn’t seem at all adverse to throwing Beto under the bus recently.

He’s just protecting his own neck here with his well worn knife to a gunfight schtick, “have you seen what I have to work with” bollocks.

That’s really bad from Moyes really bad I mean he picked the team he put Tim in who is championship level at best he was the one who never prioritised rb during the summer also what are we doing ie defending corners it’s awful the way we are set up I hate zonal marking

Genuinely surprised people disagree with him.

I’ve always gone into those games knowing we need them to have an off day to get a result.

We have to play our part in that like and made it too easy for them last night.

Lots of individual errors that cost us any chance in the game. Thats the truth. What he actually said is we are a million miles away from being able to compete with a bottom half Newcastle team. What he said is that they are all shocking shit and thats our level. Not sure that's better really

Might be because it's Newcastle.

I hate to see us get passed off the park by no mark clubs but it's been an happening for a decade now. We all understand how shit we are but have we all truly accepted it into our hearts, maybe no.

Their ambition is to get into the champions league again. Ours is to successfully avoid relegation. We are playing a different game to these, villa, spurs...even Bournemouth, Brighton.

I think an off day implies not at their usual level..... they are bottom half without an away win all season. Absolutely they have better players than us but that's not what he said. He implied the majority of times that's not a game we can compete and get a positive result in. Its nonsense

They’re a top five team whose squad costs ten times ours.

If they play to 70% of their level they win 100% of the time.

Just how it is.

Last night was terrible and we should still be able to compete a lot better, but a team with that defence and Tim infront is always at risk of being blown away.

It's a false position for Newcastle though, they have a top 5-6 squad, so people need to remember that when saying they were below us so therefore an inferior team.

Some players can be treated like that though and it acts as motivation, whereas if he comes out and slates Tim for a proper school boy performance it's not really going to help next time he needs to use him.

Thats really not how it works. 70% and they win every time. Thats not Newcastle. Thats prime barca or city playing a burnley. Newcastle are currently a bottom half team. They dont beat anyone in this league 100% of the time not at 70% not even at 100%

I've no problem with being blown away. Most teams in this league will throw these performances in at some stage. I've a problem with him claiming we cant hope to compete

One thing last night showed is that Moyes has to adapt the set up to compensate for Gana missing the up coming run for games.

A midfield 3 of:

---------------------Garner

------------KDH---------------Alcaraz

Might have been how we played second half, didn't watch most of it after the break so no idea, but the 4-2-3-1 ain't going to cut it with Gana in there.

I actually thought we played well for a period after they scored early. Then after Pickford’s error and Iroegbuman’s brain fart they grew in confidence massively and we went to shit. Different game without those two massive errors.
