Don't think anyone is writing him off. Just saying he's probably not playing because he's probably worse than them that are. It's you who's making statements that aren't based on evidence.

Be honest, do you think O'Brien has looked even semi competent in the games he's played so far?
Hard to tell because he hasn’t had enough minutes looked ok for Lyon last season and in the couple of appearances for Ireland I wasn’t expecting him to be an immediate starter ahead of Tark or Jared but to see him behind Keane is very disappointing

I'll take that as a no then. :)

I think we are over-thinking this one. The panic caused by Branthwaite's injury and Keane being the chosen replacement has put him under the spotlight. Small and legitimate criticisms/concerns have been met with a bit of parochial protectionism and sensitivity from us Paddys. Although, the suggestion by a few that we should write him off on the basis of pure speculation is a bit harsh.

I don't think he was expected to be playing at this stage. When he was bought Dyche spoke about adding depth at centre half and about him being young with the potential to be a top player. He was relatively cheap and probably seen as a reasonable short to medium term punt as either a future Branthwaite or at least someone we'd get our money back on. Or...it was all about pleasing Textor :o

He was brought in to get minutes to replace Jared when he goes next summer not to be Keane’s apprentice

I suspect he was brought in more to replace Godfrey and Holgate, which he is doing

If that's the case then it looks like we've got less than we expected with him. Why aren't you questioning the recruitment rather than insisting he should be playing

We’ve got a 6’6” player on the pitch and not one corner or free kick went near him…says it all

The people who do see him play regularly say he's worse. I think without any evidence to prove otherwise it's odd that you just insist they are wrong

He’s probably fine and a capable CB. When you’ve got mid table CBs moving for £30m and palace rejecting £65m for their boy you’d have to consider 19m for a lower league 23rd old is the going rate. What he cost a year ago is kinda irrelevant imo. Palace will be gutted, Lyon will be made up, we’re probably unconcerned.

Our expectations are a curse for young players.
