So big Jim is happy to spend £50m on an uncapped 18 year old defender but not for a more established England international defender? Okay cool.

According to numerous Utd twitter accounts - this lad has played 2 seasons in Ligue 1, which is better than our diamonds one season in the Premier League. They have completely skimmed over his season at PSV and in Europe with them. However, it does not fit their narrative of being held to ransom by disrespectful Everton.

“ Calafiori’s transfer to Arsenal has fallen into jeopardy due to a payment dispute between Bologna and Basel, Basel had agreed a 50 percent sell on clause last summer when they sold Calafiori to Bologna but now Bologna want to renegotiate it and bring the sell on percentage down.”
Second example I’ve seen recently of a club trying to negotiate down a sell on clause. Agrees to add it to the deal in the first place presumably to get a cheaper price then don’t want to honor the agreement when they sell? I wonder if clubs will stop agreeing to sell on clauses in the future with antics like this

Would lose all his cool factor if he went to arsenal and spent the rest of his career “baiting the press”

It's a risk the original seller takes. Yes 50% sounds fantastic but it also deters the new owners from ever selling because they don't want to lose a player and only get half his value in return. It makes for an unnecessary mess. In fairness to bologna they aren't refusing to honor it. They are refusing to sell if they have to which is their right

I think I read that hes in the last year of his contract, so 50m seems pretty excessive
