Agreed that wages are important, but I would keep the two things separate for FFP purposes. Transfer fees can be amortised over the length of the contract and there is more wiggle room like Chelsea have done. However wages are just cash straight off the balance sheet.sam of the south wrote: ↑Tue Jul 15, 2025 2:58 pm Forgetting wages there, mate, so it’s probably about £23m
One bad season in another country/culture doesn't mean he's on the decline. He's only just entering his prime.777Kidnappings wrote: ↑Tue Jul 15, 2025 5:02 pm I think Douglas Luis is completely wrong for where we are at. Good player but committing our very top wages to a player who's career is on the decline was what the old Everton would do. He'd be a massive financial commitment with very little hope of ever moving him on if we wanted to
I imagine his wages are massive though. And he'll definitely have other Champions League suitors.Shogun wrote: ↑Tue Jul 15, 2025 5:14 pm One bad season in another country/culture doesn't mean he's on the decline. He's only just entering his prime.
£20m on a quality 27-year-old midfielder that we couldn't have dreamed about signing 12 months ago. Absolutely daft not to sign him if it's a possibility.
I'm not even saying he's on the decline. His career is though. A very good villa side. To juve. To everton. He's not that young. He's probably never going to play champions league football now. He's probably not gonna get another big move.Shogun wrote: ↑Tue Jul 15, 2025 5:14 pm One bad season in another country/culture doesn't mean he's on the decline. He's only just entering his prime.

A bit of goggling says he earns €5m per year which is €96,000 per week, approximately £83,000 p/w. That's not mental money (relatively speaking as all football money is mental) and I doubt he'd be getting a payrise if he came here.
I’d really like us to sign some footballers this year.Shogun wrote: ↑Tue Jul 15, 2025 5:14 pm One bad season in another country/culture doesn't mean he's on the decline. He's only just entering his prime.
