He's completely wrong for where we are as a club, and I'd be interested to know what player ever takes a 75-80% wage cut (without moving clubs/down the pyramid), like some are foolishly assuming.

It's not foolishly assuming, it's saying what we think would be a sensible wage... It'd be up to him if he decided to accept somewhere between £10k and £50k a week (I think the latter is way too high) and stayed at a club that is actively trying to rehabilitate him with no pressure at all the play and perform, or take a similar wage elsewhere and have all the requirements to perform that any new signing has at a club.

We can do what's best for Deli within our own framework of what's affordable, and then it'd be up to him to decide what path he wanted to take.

Dele Will still get a decent weekly wage, and rightly so if we believe he warrants a new deal. I'm not sure there are many instances when you offer someone a contract and then offer them YTS wages cause of what's previously happened.
You offer him a deal that you think it's reflective of where he is and what he offers us, and for us to go to the extent of negotiating a new deal with spurs, then you can assume we regard him and his skillset quite highly

As far as I see it, we can either give Dele £10k (or whatever) a week and never seen him play for Everton or we can save that money and @brap2's mental health by moving on with our lives.

I know my choice.

I think it’s likely he gains an injury in pre season. Years out of the game and not living an athletes lifestyle…but I suppose Isco did it.

It's the what ifs though isn't it... Sure it's 95% definite he'll never regain any thing like his old ability levels, and probably won't ever kick a ball for us, but that 5% chance would be worth a year of spending very little in relative terms just to see.

The benefit is that we also look after a young man who's clearly lost his way and had to battle multiple personal demons, so keeping him in a safe environment is something I'd be very much in favour of.

I'm absolutely not in favour of looking after someone to the tune of 10 20 or probably 50k a week. Hope we are making the decision purely based on what he's doing in training

That feels like we're entering sunk-cost fallacy territory. The way I view it is that it's probably been 4 years since he played at a top level and we took the 'what if' risk when we first handed him the contract. It hasn't worked out and now is the point where I think the sensible decision is to write it off as a punt that didn't work out.

If the club want to look after him without a contract to his name then that's a commendable thing to do but that should be the end of us giving money to Dele. With PSR the way it is and how stringent clubs need to be then he's just not worth any amount of money a week, it's time to move on.

How many players do we have left that contribute nothing on ridiculousness wages? We can’t go cold turkey now can we. Best to wean off.

I just can't envisage him for us on a football pitch though. It's been so long.
