Maybe that article was wrong or he has both, but if not then a bidding war would likely push it beyond the £40m.
City do have an option, but he wont be going back there to be 3rd choice.

Aside from that, it's just a 40m relegation release clause for any club.

He is exactly the profile of player we should be looking for.
His game is suited to how we play, strong in the air, gets on the end of crosses, can hold it up well, proper finisher.
Whether we get him or not will depend on who else is in for him and how high that pushes the price and if he would want to come to us.

Been loads of players that have had a good season with a promoted club and then never got near that level of output again.

£40m is £40m, regardless of financial accounting.

We have no idea how much money we have to spend. If Moyes and the team feel £40m for this guys is right, then i'm not going to be too concerned about the amount of the pot he is taking up (despite being squarely in the "not Moyes" camp, he still has huge credit in the bank with me for managing a budget)

His price alone is enough to say he is not the right profile.

How will he play in a side that isnt just a transition side?

Do we want to remain just a transition side for the next 4 years? If not, do we want to lock ourselves into an expensive asset that is only proven as a transition player?

No for me for that value.

There’s such a dearth of decent strikers. We’ll either have to pay up or get very, very lucky. Probably both.

Wouldn’t put it past City paying the £40m and flipping him.

Newcastle will be fending off £100m bids for Isak this summer. Cunha will go for his release clause of £62m but would have gone for more.

Delap’s probably a £50m - £60m player with another double-figures season behind him and international caps.

He'd have been the PERFECT striker for us over the last 3 years but buying him for £40m is a bad move unless we are resigning ourselves to kick and rush football for the foreseeable.

I don't think 40 million for Delap is outrageous.
He's more than just a breaker. He's 22 and is already a well rounded centre forward. I wouldn't see it as a huge risk.
