If Villa finish outside the top four, the Premier League will have six teams in the Champions League:
The top four
Villa as Europa League winners
The EPS
Villa's precise final position would decide the Premier League's total European allocation.
If they finish fifth, the EPS passes to the Premier League's sixth-placed team.
The Premier League would surrender a place in the Europa League. Overall, England would still have eight European places.
So at this point, we'd theoretically want Liverpool to overtake Villa and for Villa to win the EL and finish 5th? As that would mean CL goes to 6th?

Exactly, they go to Villa as well in a few weeks. Just means the league 'loses' 1 of the 2 Europa League places instead.
Obviously we would actually need to finish 6th which is hard to imagine after a sickener like today

One point off sixth fucking hell mate
Ahh, today's game was the most winnable of our next 3 and we lost. West Ham away next fighting for their lives and then City.
I'll be shocked if we're 1 point off sixth in a couple of games time. Honestly I think we'll finish 12th or 13th. We're just way too inconsistent.

Noticed an oddity today that all of our away games in March, April and May are in London. Won't have played anywhere outside London or Bramley Moore since February come season's end.
My gut says we probably just miss out after today but it has been a season of plenty of unexpected results across the league so I could see us winning at West Ham and then the scenario looks different with confidence back up for City. Palace will certainly have other priorities by the time we go there...

55 points still gets you Europe for me.
Need 3 wins.
West Ham, Sunderland and Palace think are our best bets.
Palace concentrating on Europe, Sunderland wont have anything to play for.
West Hams a tough game but we are a very good team away.
City and Spurs free hits. Although i fancy us beating Spurs. Hopefully nothing riding on it when we play them.

Think we need 9pts after yesterday defeat,
Few double headers for teams like Chelsea/Brighton so some teams will drop points, etc ,
Can't afford any draws now , 3pts or bust...

i just hope we finish at least 8th - get us in the euro conf league
there will be a few unexpected losses like sundays and a couple of wins we dont expect
still confident given our current form and motivation

Think it would be cruel to make Leeds and Chelsea play an FA Cup SF and then those other two matches within a day

Preference tonight probably Draw > Brighton Win > Chelsea Win?
Only because Brighton have Newcastle A, Leeds A and Man United H (and Wolves H), so maybe not many points for them there
