I don't think 40 million for Delap is outrageous.
He's more than just a breaker. He's 22 and is already a well rounded centre forward. I wouldn't see it as a huge risk.
I dont think its outrageous.
I think it might be the wrong move for us as a club.

Bite away.
I don't think I used the word ''only'', but my point still stands. All the indicators are that we're going to be spending a sizeable amount of money this summer (for us). I point out that the fee is amortised and usually paid in instalments to say that we're not lashing 40ms here, there and everywhere.
Strikers are the most expensive players, in very high demand and low supply and 40m for a 22 year old really isn't that much money now. It's a sound investment actually.

If we're prepared to pay 40 mill we'll get him; unless West Ham get in first. He has a poor goalscoring record proir to this season and I think there is something in the theory that when teams play Ipswich they expect to win so are more attacking and games against them are more open.

A scout/football personality type guy I like a lot and follow religiously loves delap but says you have to play Loony Tunes football to get the most from him.
If you want 28% possession but let him carry it against a CB and cause mayhem then absolutely.
If you want 28% possession and want him to crash the box at 100mph and shoot first time absolutely.
We currently do play a bit like this. If we want to keep playing like this then fine, he's like Beto x1million and well worth the price. If we want to eventually play a different type of football, don't tie 40m up on a CF with one year of scoring goals as a back to front loony tunes guy.

I think United will be looking for a more proven striker. They can still attract better. If I had the choice between Delap and Højlund it would be Hojlund all day long.

Delap will go to Brighton to replace Pedro when he leaves. OR to Newcastle to replace Isak.

Delap would be fantastic. £40m is a lot but he has all the attributes to be a top player. Strong, fast, skillful, has a finish. And he has the right attitude. If you want quality you need to pay for it

We should absolutely be looking for young cheap talent to nurture and build into a team. They should be bought to fit a system of play irrespective of who the manager is (although Moyes’ appointment does suggest that the Friedkins are not entirely on board to this way of thinking).
40 mill isn’t cheap but Delap has all the attributes and the potential to be very good and to slot into any style or system he is going to be asked to play in.

Disagree, £40m would be out second most expensive signing ever?"
And like I say, I'm not convinced he fits any system. I don't think any player fits every system!

Fair enough and I agree that not every player will fit any system, particularly a striker, but I do think Delap would merit that scale of investment.
