They said maybe 8 or 9 signings at the end of last season, so I would imagine another 5/6.

I don't think that's unrealistc tbh. 2 or 3 signings for decent money, and then maybe 3 loans on top of that late in the window.

Absolutely understand the doom and gloom lots of people are feeling at the moment, because it's been so quiet and people are rightly worried about the start to the season.

It seems like Kinnear and Moyes are taking the attitude that they are willing to sacrifice that in order to get the players they want for the longer term benefit. I suppose time will tell if that is the right call, and the quality of signings will determine how successful that approach is.

1) We can't make a bid and wage offer that is too good for either party to turn down.

2) Better players have more competition for their signature... For example we tried to sign a winger who went to Juventus. He's probably said he's interested in joining us but not if a bigger team comes in, which happened. In that case you have to wait and see if anyone better comes in and hope they don't.

We could probably sign Hackney today for £20m - £25m, but why would you do that if you could sign Douglas Luiz for the same or similar money? Only issue is he's not going to sign for us because of point 2, and we can't ignore point 1 to try persuade him because of the obvious implications on our spending from then on in the window.

I don't think it comes from anywhere and I don't think it's true or untrue. You could sign better or worse players earlier or later.

As I said, our approach will only be validated (or not) by the quality of the players we bring in, and how successful they are.

What's absolutely clear is that they do still want to sign a load more players. Both Moyes and Kinnear have said it repeatedly, and talked about the scale of the rebuild that needs doing this summer.

These people aren't morons, so it'd be reasonable to assume that much like the fans, they would have preferred to sign the players earlier rather than later. Any manager in the league is going to want signings in July rather than August.

So then there must be reasons that we as fans are unaware of that we haven't done that much business yet, and we're all here guessing and filling in the blanks. Some people will say that the club is being too picky and dragging it's feet too much, and others will say the market must be difficult and complicated, depending on your disposition. Maybe a bit of both.

In relation to your original comment about taking longer to sign better players, I think it's reasonable to say if you're working on a limited budget, you need quite a few signings with that limited budget, you don't have Europe or much recent track record in the league to offer them, and you're trying to sign younger players and change the direction of the club, that it's quite a complicated scenario to manage.

And you might extend them some understanding and patience with that, or you might not because you're massively scarred by being an Everton fan and suffering lifelong disappointment. I lean towards the former, but I don't blame a single person for trending towards the latter until they have reason to believe otherwise.

I think it's that the players who think they might have better options won't be in any rush to sign for us.

Better or right only works if our recruitment is good and our first choices are better than our second choices
