As it stands, we'll have a squad of 13 players going into next season

Seems a good opportunity for a reset to me. Would offer Virginia, Gana and DCL new contracts even though the latter is unlikely to sign. I'm sure Young will probably get another. Coleman too but he absolutely shouldn't.

June 2025

Virginia
Begovic
Keane
Young
Coleman
Mangala (loan)
Doucoure
Gana
Lindstrom (loan)
Harrison (loan)
Calvert-Lewin
Broja (loan)

June 2026

Tarkowski
Garner

June 2027

Pickford
Branthwaite
Mykolenko
Patterson
Iroegbunam
Armstrong
McNeil
Beto
Chermiti

June 2028

O'Brien

June 2029

Ndiaye

Had no idea Begovic was still here.

Young for another season at 40? Not with us!

Coleman for U18s coach, with Baines moving up to the 1st team

I would imagine Virginia wanting regular game time somewhere else

Just need a keeper for the bench and we’ll be fine.

The best thing he’s done compared to his predecessor is not lose massive amounts of money on a lot of players. There’s no JP Gbamins on the pay roll for instance. Even Maupay and Beto have retained most of the fee we paid for them although I think they’re special cases.
Im broadly in agreement over Thelwells performance, Im not really sure what people expect him to do over and above what he has done.

I'll start by sayng not every call hes made has been correct, or made sense, Maupay being the classic example. But show me a DoF who has bought no duds?

But on the other hand: Hes got to identify players who can do a job, are free or can be bought on Klarna, and will come to us in our situation ahead of competitors.
The biggest issue of those that its very difficult to do anything about, is the lack of cash and payment terms.

So people pin Beto on him, for example (and I think with different service theres maybe a goalscorer in there), but he somehow managed to buy a top Italian league striker who was capable of double figures in said league, for no money up front, on the never never.

On outgoings, hes done really well. We are vulnerable as people know we needed cash, and hes got fees in that have been enough. This is the area most in his direct control, and hes done pretty good work IMO.

Im not sure turnover here in the summer is helpful, Id extend his contract by a further year and see what he can do with Davey, who is a good mover in the transfer markets himself.

Yep. I think who he wanted to get and who he could actually get was a Venn diagram with a tiny, tiny overlap. We have been in for a lot of players who would have made a big difference here but they chose a different club over us. As we become more attractive prospects ourselves, we can hope for some of those to fall our way in the future.

Not a fan but I think as Moyes will want a large say on transfers and Thelwell seems like he can work with a manager rather than being solely in charge I'd be willing to give it another 12 months to see how things went.

I wanted a DOF with a much better track record when it looked like Dyche would be sacked but I'm not sure there's much point now we have Moyes, and Thelwell seems pretty involved with things outside transfers at the club where continuity might be beneficial.

I don't see the relationship working unless Thelwell is prepared to allow Moyes the final say on targets. Moyes is so meticulous and loves a bargain. I've absolutely no doubt at all that he will already have had a couple of players in mind even well before he was interviewed for the job. That's just the type of guy he is. Absolutely no doubt at all he will have watched hours and hours of the turgid shite that Dyche has churned out this season and will have already identified the players that need an arse kicking, the players that need an arm around the shoulder and the ones that simply need fucking off for good. He's a bit of a control freak and a bit of a workaholic. There were some rumours that Dyche was not spending too much time at Finch Farm. Moyes will be the polar opposite.

We’ll see.

As long as Thelwell and Moyes broadly agree on a direction for the club, I think Moyes will appreciate the fact that we already have a functioning recruitment team.

He did poor work at Sunderland, signing mostly Everton and United castoffs, due to the lack of time and resources. I’m glad he’s not walking into that here.

Grim as it is, Cresswell probably walks into our team and even makes us a bit better.
