While this is true the goals aspect isn't hard to replace and we could in theory bolster in another position to compensate for what he brings. Think he's a great player but we are where we are with this squad and we can't afford to hold on to him until his contract goes
So sell him and buy two players?
In our financial position?
And our track record in recruitment?
Reckon that's a tall order myself

While I agree it's difficult it's where we are as a club. We need to get better quickly with this stuff.

And it's an even taller order if you get nothing for him next summer.

Think if he'll sign and we are confident he can stay fit then we should offer him a long term contract.
He's a very decent player and suited to what we do. We absolutely have to get used to selling to buy but selling players in the last year of their contracts isn't the way to do it if it can be avoided

The decision is whether to get him to agree a new contract or sell him this summer.
They're the only two viable options

He’s a wonderful footballer and he’s been my fave player since Baines. But it would be really tough to carry him through another bout of injuries.

Bottom line is since the takeover we were always going to pay for the shit show recruitment, the chickens have come home to roost and that's it, but we've always sold our best for decades, until that changes we will not progress further.

Clearly the over riding factor is whether or not he’ll sign an extension- surely to fuck the Club know either way by now, so all this talk in the media would suggest (?) that he won’t, and we are therefore just trying to maximise the return
And then buy solankie or Abraham

Can’t we do both? Put him on another contract so it protects him longer term and/or gives us more money if he goes.

Not in the same simmer no.
Well, we could. But it'd be a bit mad to waste the time and money and he'd be soft in the head to agree to it

Solanke's just got 20 goals. You're not getting him for less than £50m, and he'd have better options than us.

We have to be cleverer than buying a current twenty goal striker. It's just not feasible. We need the next big thing, someone who will be great not is great right now

Good players are hard to find. If you've already got one do all you can to keep them.
