Still want him to get a run of games starting and ideally not being brought off at half time.

Poor last night but hung out to dry a bit with the rest of the team that was picked. Same for Dibling.

Think we’d look a lot better with Garner sitting, Gana and Dewsbury-Hall as dual 8s in a midfield three, and Barry up top.

Barry drops off to receive the ball and lay it off to either of the two 8s or two wingers depending on how the opposition is set up and where the space is.

We have two players on the weak side of the pitch running beyond Barry into the box and a nice triangle of options (winger, 8, fullback) on the strong side to work space to find a pass or cross to find them. Barry is crashing in late as an extra option.

We have four players sitting deeper (Garner in midfield, the weak side fullback, the two CBs) to help sweep up clearances and help stop counters.

It’s not a huge shift to how we’re currently playing but it helps get KDH playing more facing forward than with his back to goal and it utilizes Barry’s strengths without sacrificing our goal threat. Ndiaye, Gana, Grealish, and KDH are all capable enough in front of goal and Barry’s tall with a decent leap to feast on dinked crosses while the CBs are already occupied with the other players in the box.

Doesn't work very hard, doesn't close down with any aggression or purpose, not good in the air.

Does occasionally lay the ball off well and seems to make very good runs off the ball fairly frequently.

Think until he learns to mix it with physical premier league defenders the negatives outweigh the positives at present so needs to be the back up / last 20 mins option.

For all Beto's faults, of which there are many, he's still more of a problem for the oppositions defenders than Barry at present. It's just too easy a game for them with Barry starting.

Hard disagree.

Quick transitions are how most of the best chances are created and Beto’s first touch yields too many of those for the opposition.

Your CF needs to be able to control the ball if you want to play possession football at all. We have players like Grealish, Ndiaye, and KDH whose abilities are completely wasted picking up scraps bouncing off a rough CF. We saw that plenty in the first half at Anfield.

Beto can come give those defenders a problem when they’re getting tired after 60 minutes or so. If we need him to.

I'd rather have beto. Barry doesn't look remotely arsed most of the time. Ultimately though it looks like 60m on 2 duds. Add maupay and chermiti in there too and we are getting close to 100m on shite

Unfair to judge him based on last night given the abysmal team selection.

He needs opportunities to see if he can offer more than Beto alongside the first 11. Not a half baked attempt at giving fringe players a single game against PL opposition

We have to be willing to let him have bad games ultimately.

He might have a bad year. We have to be willing and patient if we want these longer term players to come off.

Was never going to see the best of him this season.

We’ve signed a player who’s very raw who needs patience and time to get the best out of them over the long term.

For some reason I was called out in the summer when I said this and used examples like moise kean, lookman, gerry as players we failed by not giving them the right environment.

Unfortunately I still have little faith in the club as a whole to think we’ve learned from the mistakes of the past, but at least as fans we can hold our water instead of calling him a dud after two starts.

I just don't understand how he started so much for a Villarreal side that finished 5th last season and here he looks like a 19 year old getting his first bit of football in his career.

Obviously there's an adjustment period and I had reservations anyway considering he wasn't even a starter for the French U21s in the summer but I'm surprised just how poor he's been so far.

Not going to draw any long term conclusions on the back of like 5 matches though. It's a shame Beto isn't really doing enough to take some pressure of the lad.

Looks like he needs someone to give him a shake before the game and a slap around the face to get him going. Put himself about a bit, back into defenders, just generally be a nuisance as he looks like he has a good touch it just all looks a bit tame at the moment.

Feels like one of those situations where you'd think skills would transfer more seamlessly between top leagues but underlines how different the PL is and how tough it can be to adapt to.

What was the stat before he came here...he won like 95% of headers or something? It's just not the same game for him right now and aside from dropping deep and being a link option he's looked pretty lost out there so far for me in that final third.

This isn't to write him off, but it feels like he's gone up a weight division and needs to adjust.

I don't think he's doing enough elsewhere for it to be overlooked that he's not really putting himself about. Think we'll be in the market for yer another 1st choice striker as soon as we can afford 1

He’s been a part of three goals already and hardly played.

He’s genuinely doing fine. Games like last night are all part of the journey with young strikers. He lost his head a bit and was 100% on his way to a red card but it’s not an issue.

I was honestly expecting a lot worse than what I’ve seen so far.

Moyes, like dyche wants his strikers to do too much and it makes them a target for criticism.

There’s also a reason why strikers like Joselu, Aspas, stuani, sorloth, and I think there’s a few more in there, do nothing in the premier league but score goals in Spain.

The teams here are quicker and stronger than anywhere else and I think he’s dealing with that part of the game quite well.
