Really good signing, dirt cheap, loads of room to improve at 22. Very Moyes kind of signing.

Can't help comparing to the late 2000's DM team, with pre-injury Arteta on the left matching Ndiaye's guile and silky skills, and Alcataz through the middle matching Cahill's mercurial tenacity. Carlos is a more rounded 10 of course, more creative probably, but Tim no doubt a better goal scorer. Alcaraz has that same Talismanic vibe about him.

Pickford, Branthwaite, Gana are all making that team too. Imagine Jarrad playing alongside a maturing Stones, Baines, Coleman, Pienaar, chuck Lukaku.up to (* I know Martinez signed him, but, ah, the possibilities.

Need to do an Everton XI since the millennium now.

Absolutely delighted, this lad is going to be one of our favourite players in a year or two. Think he's going to be next level

He's already the forum darling like, hopefully he can continue to build on the flashes he's shown

I don't really have a strong opinion on him yet, but I think we've seen enough of him to take a chance.

This is only a first step though to building our very depleted squad up. We need to add quality in a few other areas and if we can get these players interacting and playing well in the new stadium...well there is reason to hope we can do more than just try and survive for the first time in years.

Looking forward to seeing who else we can bring in.

Just that "better than what we have" is a really poor way of judging a player's value.

It feels quite similar to Gomes to me, to be honest.

I wills at the money in this case is much much more reasonable than anything in the period I was talking about

In fairness, Gomes looked a real talent during his loan spell, as well as having a freakishly good season at Valencia before Barca. It seemed a good deal at the time.

Alcaraz could go the same way, or he could be a massive hit, that's the gamble. But he looks promising to me.

He was great at Southampton so I'm not worried

Up to a point you take that risk with any signing, we've seen loads of players that have joined the prem or even moved between two prem teams, and it just hasn't worked.

At least at this price the risk vs reward is mitigated somewhat.

Like Gomes you'd talk about pace and physicality potentially being an issue when we signed him. What does Alcaraz lack?

That's the thing for me, what he appears to lack is consistency and that's fine.

Should be asking ourselves if this is the signing Brighton would make. If the answer is yes then you’re on the right path.
