And fair play, never begrudge anyone trying to move up on the world

We can get a replacement for that money
I think anything but him signing a new contract puts us in a worse position. If someone above us in the league pays 25-30m for him in the last year of his contract then it stands to reason that we’d have to spend double that to get someone of the same calibre. Let’s not forget Beto will cost 25m and there every possibility he’s rubbish. It might make more sense to use that money to strengthen elsewhere to make up for the drop in striker quality

I think we're talking ourselves down.

Sure, we've had a bad few years and the club is in a mess at the moment, and Chelsea would definitely be a step up. But by all accounts, Chelsea also have to sell to balance the books, they already have Jackson and Nkunku as forward options (so limiting DCL's potential playing time), and they 'only' qualified for the Europa League next season. They're a bit of a basket case too and certainly not the same proposition they were a few seasons ago.

Although our football might not be the prettiest, we can guarantee DCL would start pretty much every week (if he's fit), he's one of our top earners, and we have the pretty big carrot of the new stadium to dangle, too. It's not like when we move in we'll suddenly be challenging for the league but it would be a watershed moment for the club and everyone associated with it.

Aston Villa were shit until a couple of seasons ago and look where they are now. Not saying we'll make the Champions League any time soon, but if we can make it through the next season or two, and get to the new stadium with new owners, we should have everything in place to start seeing the green shoots of recovery.

Just hope that us, and others of a similar size, get the chance to challenge again at the top

Means some form of levelling the playing field for the league as a whole, wage cap, spending cap whatever, so that it isn’t just the same two or three teams for the rest of time winning everything

25-30m would that be cash or in hotels?
If its the latter, we can sell said hotel to ourselves for 10x that price and be done with PSR for ever.

No point in a sideways move for him

Got to be Newcastle/spurs or stay I reckon

Imagine if he won’t sign a contract we’ll end up selling to whoever

DCL has to stay - the one player we need to keep

One player we need to stay is Branthwaite imo.

Do Brentford even pay wages that DCL is currently on. Would be an extremely odd move for him. They actually got less points than us and I doubt he'd be looking at a pay rise

It was reported that we had opened talks over a new contract at the end of the season.
