How they have given the pen for the equaliser though, such a ridiculous ruling.

The City player had kicked the ball and it was heading out of play (and might well have been out of play) before he was even made contact with. Rolled one thousand times in the gutter, for dramatic effect....

There was nothing in Allison's challenge that prevented a goal being scored, and his challenge wasn't heavy, the rules really are an ass.

Was a foul, he went pretty heavily into him, the issue really is inconsistency of these things being given.

There was that one where Foden I think it was cleared out after taking the shot and it wasn't given.

That’s a good point, he should be null and void as an entity at that point once they’ve chosen to play the advantage

I get where you're coming from but I think if you commit a challenge, get none of the ball and clatter the player then that is a penalty. I think the ball was still (just) in play when the contact was made even though granted he wouldn't have got there.

Plus I don’t think he was getting to the ball anyway so think it defo should have stood

That's right. Inconsistency for inside and outside the box too.

How is the punishment in this instance fitting the crime though? See these all the time. The box shouldn't be a special place on the pitch where the rules change.

Penalties were created to award goals that should/would have been, had it not been for the deliberate offending actions of a defending player, not for things that never ever would have been a goal.

What is the keeper to do, he's almost prohibited from defending his goal because something might happen after the ball is misshit out of play. It wasn't a reckless challenge. The striker certainly wasn't prevented from scoring a goal by the actions of the keeper. I hate it.

And it promotes simulation and other cheating, which are also supposed to be against the rules, but never applied.

Well yeah, you're getting into other issues there.

I'm with that on handballs in the box, unless they're stopping the ball going in or something of that nature it should be a free kick in the box. A ball flicking off a player from a cross or some such when players are running and moving their hands shouldn't equal an almost certain goal.

I know what you're saying too I think, but 'contact' or a 'foul'. We've all seen much worse not given a foul, even in today's game there were a number of mistimed challenges resulting in heavy contact.
But because it's in the box, and because 'tv cameras' drama etc,...I think we lose sight of the game.

The irony is that in the same game they effectively gave a goal that was never ever going to be one, and chalked one off that really should have been.
