They haven’t got the balance right at a committee level in this transfer window at all. We have heard that offers have been made for countless players but it’s about getting them through the door that counts most.

How we haven’t sorted out RB and RW is completely unacceptable. I don’t understand how this hasn’t been done and not addressing these positions has meant that we can’t even put out a coherent first XI.

It was a horrible mess last night and we were lucky to be 0-0 at half time, probably owing to Leeds not being particularly great. Missing only two players and it looked far removed from a half decent team.

A few on here are living in cloud Cuckoo land if they think Grealish Ndaiye KDH ( baller) and Dibbling ( pending) are going to transform and make us impossible to get to the ball of us. We don't have players to give them the ball unless you count Pickford pinging it at them.

Too bids or enquiries for players who had no intention of coming here. It's been an utter shambles.

Last night looks a lot different with Garner central and Mykolenko at LB.

Garner was afraid of using his left foot to play the ball down the line to Ndiaye and Grealish. That’s one out ball gone.

For most of the night, Tim was the deepest midfielder. He was not effective in finding pockets to take the ball off the defense. That’s another out ball gone. Our best spell came when Gana dropped deeper and Tim went further forward because we could build a bit more through this position.

We need the players everyone’s talking about. One part of it is increasing the quality of our first eleven (RB and RW in particular, probably also DM). But we also need them to keep players who totally crater our ability to function out of the team (or out of positions they can’t handle).

Yeah I'd love to upgrade on garner at some point but we missed him badly in Cm last night as just a functioning cm who knows where he's supposed to be on the pitch, put in challenges and don't switch off.

Sas indictment of the academy that no matter how threadbare we get, nobody ever steps up.

There's not one adult-sized LB in the academy?

It's hilarious that page 1 of this thread says the same that's been said on page 294. It's blatantly obvious what is needed, yet nothing seems forthcoming.

That's a good point a out the academy, what's the point of ours? Doesn't provide players, doesn't earn us much money. It's surprising we're still a Premier League club with how poorly we've been ran for so long in so many areas.

I think the academy’s actually done better recently.

Putting aside a big sale like Gordon, getting smaller chunks for good but not good enough players like Broadhead and Simms helps. We don’t get enough players to that level though.

The new head of the academy from United seems to be highly rated. It’ll take a few years but perhaps we’ll find ourselves in a spot where the next man up from the U21s is playable in their natural position in an emergency and where the ones who aren’t good enough for the first team can be sold for decent money to the Championship.

I'd be trying to hijack the Bournemouth bid for Doak tbh... Yeah we might have to pay a bit more but I'm sure he'd rather come here than there, get him to push for the move and reject the Bournemouth one.

Too much waiting around for players we won't get, being priced out of others... We know what Doak costs, we can afford it even if it's a bit more, then move on to getting other players in.

History counts for fuckall, the modern day player doesn't care how successful of a club you were in the past.

If a potential employer tells me we can offer you a shiny new office to work in but the rest of the package is sub standard, i'm giving them a swerve.

Just want a side/squad that doesn't look like it was assembled with the footballing equivalent of using Homer Simpsons' makeup shotgun.

Somehow seems like a high bar right now.

Being jealous of Leeds bringing Longstaff on is a low point.

Warning/Disclaimer - this is an optimistic viewpoint. It feels easy to be weighed down by a disappointing result and go into a doom loop of transfer despair, but we can still be positive.

The transfer window has been poor, but we cannot judge after one game and before the end of the transfer window itself.

JB and Myko are key players for us, and yesterday proves it. However I thought Garner and Keane stepped up well. Especially Garner, who despite having McNeil Syndrome (only having one useful foot to use), seemed to cope at Left back without it causing any major issues.

The bench also looked a little stronger despite a small squad and injuries. There were considerable options for us to bring on, like Grealish, Barry and McNeil. That should be bolstered in the next couple of weeks. I don’t think Moyes had his best game tactically/subs wise.

The transfer committee can still bring in players and have an opportunity to do a lot more. It’s not the start we all hoped for, and it’s certainly not the squad we all hoped it would be, but until things are done and dusted on 1st September, no point in getting too carried away when there is 2 weeks left to trade.
