So the point I’m seeing made, by Knutson and others who agree, is that the fullbacks and midfield are so poor that keeping things extremely tight and grinding out points is probably our optimal play for safety.
I can kind of see their point but something has just felt off about the way we’ve approached these matches. Maybe I am assigning the players more capability than they deserve, who knows.
Moyes is largely going to give us more of the same. Maybe being a new person gives the players a bit of a boost, maybe he’s got an additional idea or two about how to manufacture chances with this group of players.
Seems like we’ve chosen the safest way to freshen things up.
I can kind of see their point but something has just felt off about the way we’ve approached these matches. Maybe I am assigning the players more capability than they deserve, who knows.

Thing people are still seeing this squad through Dyche-tinted glasses. Not expecting Coleman and Baines standards but think the fullbacks and wingers will be much much brighter under Moyes.

I think it's a bit chicken and egg personally. Patterson certainly has potential to be an attacking full back, obviously it remains to be seen if he plays him and if he's defensively sound enough. I'd like to think that there's at least a degree of improvement possible across the board with even slightly more positive tactics and I certainly wouldn't blindly rely on stats without the context of who the manager is and what his methods are.

Myko overlaps but is horrible at crossing so we need to remove both ideally and play Patterson and McNeil as wing backs.
So yeah it's both, Dyche's persistence with Young affected so much of our play at both ends, and Myko is just crap.

Patterson looks a footballer and definitely the best of the crop going forward but he frightens me in a back 4. He just isn't now, and I don't think he will be, defensively sound enough. His positioning just looks wrong. With a strong back 3, he could definitely work but I just don't think he's a full back.

Give the boy a bit of coaching. Doubt he’s had anyone give him the time of day outside of the national team setup throughout his career so far.

I think this is our biggest issue going forward. No overlapping or underlapping, less movement, our wingers up against a fullback and winger.
Even just getting a RB and moving Young to the left with McNeil on that wing and Ndiaye in the middle would help.
I'm shocked we did not address this in the summer, it seemed very obvious to me that it was a big problem.
