It's probably still not too late to sack him and reinstate Carsley.

Roy Keane would have waded into Pickford if he’d have conceded that second goal - not a word about Henderson

Standard stuff from England. Throw some good players together and they think they will win. Happens over and over again.

Senegal have a solid side, knew what to do and executed it perfectly.

If you kept Carsley you would have had a manager who knows about the players from the senior team to the under 21s, and put in a style of play that suits them.

The results and performances probably would have been a lot better and he would have built on the very good job Southgate did.

Tuchel will just rip it all apart.

It still might work. The reality is England probably only need to play well in three games during his reign to win the World Cup and he has plenty of time to know what players he can trust to perform in those games.

I feel like the international game is moving on from these managers though.

Last two managers to win the World Cup and euros were promoted from within, with very little reputation. Southgate himself got us to two finals with very little reputation. Joachim lowe as well.

Just don’t think going all in on a big name manager who’s not from the country works in the international game.

Genuinely can’t think of one?

Same country obviously but Mancini for Italy in Euro 2021 was the sort of type of manager. Very much only played well in the tournament and even then they didn't play that well, just won when it mattered.

Can definitely see a 2014 style World Cup nightmare for England next year, which is tragic given how many talented players we have.

Tuchel looks like such a bad fit. He’s not a good times guy and the feelgood factor in a tournament camp has got to be there

McNulty in his BBC piece said that Southgate in the last euros had England giving big moments but not big performances and I think it will be more of the same next summer - hoping individual pieces of brilliance, when players go rogue and take it into their own hands (Bellingham bicycle kick, Saka solo run and shot, Watkins late dramatics from the last tournament) save the day

Spain to me look light years ahead of England, and they aren’t the only ones. But they have a style of play that they stick to and bigger difference makers than we do as well
